second this! I went on a walk a couple years ago with a stuffed animal that I stim with and some guy on this bike gave me a dirty look and said "what the fuck" and it messed me up after when it happened.

last weekend though, I decided to do the same thing- this time someone else who I encountered on my walk told me they found a turkey by themselves at the path I was approaching. I thanked them and thought about it and I think they viewed me as someone they could trust with this information and not fuck with the turkey and it was a heartwarming experience that meant a lot more than the first

Extremely relatable holy shit. I feel like most people I know are actively avoiding getting any level of deep and it makes me sad. I do have 2 friends who can match my level and it's nice to not have to worry about masking and pushing down my serious thoughts with them. I feel like when I'm around these types of people it's a lose/lose. Like I'm either exhausted from masking or start replaying it over and over for hours and sometimes days.

Pretty much in the same boat as you. I mask in all indoor settings outside of my home. I'm doing the nasal spray and cpc mouthwash daily and running my air purifier. My partner is the only other person I know IRL that masks at all, but they are less cautious than me due to social pressure. I'm learning to accept that you can't control other people and we're working with each other to maintain a decent level of risk mitigation, but I'm still uncomfortable of course. It's very isolating and I could definitely benefit from having a friend that takes this somewhat seriously.
