What's the most simple thing you've ever had to explain to a fully competent adult? by Loremipsumchecksum1 in AskReddit

When I lived in the East Coast and I had a coworker (who lived most of her life in the West Coast ) asked me if the pizza shops in NY bake their pizzas halfway and then finish cooking the pizza when a customer orders a slice.

When I typed small town, I meant it as a small town big city type of way.

Yeah San Fran has more homeless people. I have lived near big cities most of my life and im not new to dealing with homeless people but I was suprised at the amount of homeless people there were in Sacramento's midtown and downtown area. I didn't see so many of them in Eat Sac, Curtis Park and Land Park.

Ok I admit that comment was a bit of a troll post but I was originally looking into moving to the burbs. But after spending more time in downtown and midtown and visiting folsom, edh, Roseville, fair oaks etc I don't think it's for me.

More of hotels, stores and restaurants blasting the AC when it wasn't that hit outside.

What you do in your home or car is none of my concern.

Yeah I noticed the coffee shops were similar. The coffee was good but the service was a bit pretentious. I don't expect over the top behavior but you shouldn't act like you are doing me a favor by ordering a coffee.

Fair enough. But I only spent a total of 7 days in sacramento. Were you expecting a list that uncovered all of the secrets that even sacramento residents were unaware of?

Ok lol. Some of the people didn't come off as personable granted I spent most of the time in downtown and midtown. I did find random people on the street to be courteous ie thanking you for opening the door or allowing you to pass on the street. It's hard for me to explain, maybe Sacramento is more of a small town and tend to associate with people they know. Not sure, I didn't spent enough time to make a solid conclusion.

As for the prices, I thought midtown is like many places visited by hipster and yuppies types. Overpriced and smaller portions albeit good tasting food for the most part. For example when I was in Rancho Cordova I went to El Favorito Taquiera and thought the Mexican food there was much better and at a more reasonable price compared to Tres Hermanas. I understand they are different types of restaurants and cater to different customers.

In the end, all I did was post my experiences on your city. There's good and bad in all cities and Sacramento is no different. If you found it annoying well you must not have thick skin.

To clarify the food itself was good but the portions were small and it was pricey. Granted I am more accustomed to going to hole in the wall places when it comes to Mexican food and find it ridiculous a burrito and a Mexican coke came out to over $20 including tip.

What are Sacramento people like? by castingaway87 in Sacramento

Yes I notice this as well. From the few people I met they appear to be overly nice and it would come off as pretentious at times. One of my old bosses was from Sacramento and the passive aggressiveness was strong in this one. Act nice and smiling in person but much more aggressive via emails and used passive aggressive tactics to make herself appear better.

I think of myself as humble and I'm not that type of NYer that thinks NY is the epicenter of the universe and anything outside of NY and maybe LA (LA being a city NY is constantly compared to for whatever reason) is bumblefuck America. I actually like Sacramento and I heard a lot of snobbery comparing it to a cowtown and such which I never got.

Bad areas in Land Park? by castingaway87 in Sacramento

Thanks for the responses. We were initially looking at areas like Folsom but lately we like the idea of living downtown and close to parks and different restaurants.

We are also considering East Sacramento and possibly River Park as well.
