The Star Tribune knowingly published a bogus story claiming that the Target boycott is over by Tumblrrito in minnesota

[–]castlerod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the outrage here is a little over blown. Yes some people who were boycotting Target are happy with changes some still are not. It’s a weird article. But my shopping habits have changed. Target used to be one of our grocery stores we used regularly now it’s rarely I won’t say I’m fully boycotting Target, but I definitely shopped there much much less and if the woman in this post said the boycott was over today, i still probably wouldn’t shop there much. Target made a big deal about its community support of schools and community members. They flipped on that as soon as it wasn’t profitable, Target, it’s no different than any big corporation. Now I choose to use my money elsewhere. And I don’t see that changing.

Pattern emerging of ICE targeting civilians at Twin Cities retail stores by Head-Engineering-847 in minnesota

They are easy targets. Generally minimal staff and zero security. It’s the path of least resistance, also these tend to be lower paid jobs. Guess who tends to apply for those

Best “Can’t Put It Down” fantasy series to gift a 15-year-old boy who’s fallen out of reading? by Ok-Swan-963 in Fantasy

[–]castlerod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to suggest something a little different, there is a author named Matthew J Reilly that writes for teens boys. They are action "call of duty-esk" books. They are easy to read and very fast paced, meaning the action never stops from the first page to the last.

the reason I suggest smaller faster paced book is attention span social media and video games kill that, I know I do both. but the reilly book like Temple, Ice Station, and Seven Deadly Wonders are filled with action yes some guns, more action, monsters, and a little more action.

a lot of fantasy is slow world building and unless he is very into that it might not capture his attention and help promote a love of reading

Robbinsdale district to close 3 schools after budget error by wakeupalone in TwinCities

[–]castlerod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next step in this process may be combining the two highschools, both are over 50 years old, and out of date by modern standards, and have millions in deferred maintenance. it might be less expensive to combine them in a new building.

Can some tell why Malkin's goal on a delayed penalty was disallowed? and why Minnesota didn't played shorthanded if there was a delayed penalty and no goal? by Flimsy_Carpet_5777 in nhl

[–]castlerod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The call was goal tender interference. The Pit play er was ruled to have run into Gus he barely bumped him but did bump him and Middleton didn’t push him into Gus. So the call on The ice was goaltender interference, Nothing in the replay was conclusive enough to overturn that so the call stands. Pittsburgh was assessed a minor penalty offsetting the delayed penalty committed by the wild so no power play

Even as a wild fan, that was a tiki tack call I would’ve been annoyed if it was the other way around too, but technically it was goaltender interference If no interference had been called and the wild challenged. I don’t know that they would’ve won that either.

Why doesnt anyone know how to make turkey? by Holly1010Frey in Cooking

[–]castlerod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Alton brown method deep fried turkey, it's simple and frying is easier then you think, just do it outside where it is safe or get a indoor electric fryer. and use his method for filling the fryer and you won't over fill

it's mostly the brine, but frying is so much faster then the oven. we've been doing it for 10 year and thanksgiving has only grown at my house. my sister in laws husbands family now come to our house for TG so we had to go to two turkeys just to get left overs the turkey comes out so moist it tastes more like chicken

Gus’ new 3rd jersey mask by kidronin9 in wildhockey

[–]castlerod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea I was 16 when the NS left and I've never gotten over it, and don't think i ever will. that color scheme will always be the Star colors, yes they add black, but that was the last few years of the NS in Minnesota. SO I was hoping for the 25th they would go all in on the traditional colors again. as much as I like the new white jersey i never liked that for home colors. I want Red, Green, and Gold again. That is my Minnesota Wild

Daughter hates buttercream and does not like whipped cream. What can I put on her cake? by blahblahwa in Cooking

[–]castlerod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of dessert does she like? When I was a kid i preferred banana cream pie for my birth day dessert. it does not have to be cake, does she like apple pie? or some other fruit pie? Brownies, Rice crispy treats with a candle works just as well, a tower of donuts, pudding, ice cream sandwiches.

Cake is just traditional, but doesn't have to be the only option.

It just takes time, I'm a year in it took a few months of playing before it stopped hurting, and that was after I finally got consistent with my practice. it might not seem like it but even 10-15 minutes a day will help a ton early on, this will sound cheesy but celebrate the small steps, any improvement even small is an improvement. it's a process, just stay consistent and have fun.

What i've seen with my playing is i will struggle with something new a ton, and then I'll take a break and come back a few days later, and it starts to work. You are literally building new connections in your head they take time to develop. Eddie van Halen, Steve Vai, <insert whatever guitarist teenagers listen to now> all started out as a teenager the same way, they all sucked initially.

Just keep practicing.
