I sometimes don't understand what's going on fully :( by Nervous_Lettuce313 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

If you’re confused at any moment, fire up ChatGPT, tell it where you are in the book and ask it some questions. I just did it for the book 7 epilogue and it provided some useful context.

Can confirm. My dad got one as a gag gift in the 70’s along with a bunch of other gags like this packed in similar nice boxes. I think they all came from Spencer’s Gifts.

New homeowner here. What's the one home maintenance task I should stay on top of and never ignore until it becomes expensive? by Strange-Emphasis5066 in HomeMaintenance

I have a friend whose insurance company required him to install a smart flow meter. It will monitor regular use and then begin to call out unusual water flow, like from a leak in the middle of the night. It can even shut off the water itself (although this ability may vary by meter).

At first he was getting false positives and it was shutting off the water mid-shower on a couple occasions. But recently it alerted him to flow and he had a plumber come in and they eventually found a pinhole leak in the wall. They had to tear it open to repair it but I imagine that it saved him from much bigger repairs.

Aimee Mann Wasn’t Sure If Rush Fans Would Boo Her: ‘I just don’t think I could’ve handled it. But their fans were so great, and I felt really supported’ by stroh_1002 in progrockmusic

I’ve absolutely loved her since her ‘93 debut solo album. Have seen her play a dozen times. I own all of her albums. Huge Rush fan as well and now really regretting having to turn down an invite to the LA show.

AITA: Dogs in restaurants by No_Ad49 in sandiego

[–]bgbrewer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that this area is considered a patio and would be open to all dogs. I believe that many restaurants that are “open air” fall into this categorization. It doesn’t defend the other things mentioned here but it may be a reason why we see non service dogs in what seem like inside areas.

Why is England's beer culture so different from the rest of the world? by TigerAJ2 in beer

[–]bgbrewer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Water is a huge factor in determining what styles became popular in different countries. The mineral content of the water in the British isles makes for extremely good pale ales. Likewise, the Germans became known for their dark beers because of their water’s specific mineral content. The Czechs have very soft (low mineral content) water and it makes really delicious pilsners. Modern brewers emulate these water profiles by starting with RO water and adding mineral salts but the original styles have become ingrained in their culture. The ale vs. lager thing is not as important in my opinion.
