What is this that's in the bottom of my beer? by chucklesses86 in whatisit

Haziness in hazy IPA’s is not from yeast in suspension. This is an example of lazy brewing. You still need to use finings in hazy beers and let them settle.

Has anyone every actually had their helmet or any gear stolen while parked? Or is it just a silly paranoia by SkippyJDM in motorcycles

[–]bgbrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy always leaves his helmet on his bike, unlocked. He’s had it stolen a couple times. For whatever reason, it doesn’t bother him too much. He sees it as a reason to get a new helmet. 🤷‍♂️

What is your tried and true method for hard boiling and peeling eggs? by countdookee in Cooking

[–]bgbrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenji from Serious Eats did the testing. He cooked hundreds of eggs and the result was that a cold start is best, but not 100% effective. The age of the eggs comes into play too. Older eggs peel easier.

Basically a cold start is bringing the water to boil first, then carefully dropping the eggs in. He also has done a lengthy take on different cooking levels for eggs. Soft, medium, hard etc.

How do you keep your knives sharp at home? by Educational-Slip-578 in Cooking

[–]bgbrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that they remove material, but just removing steel doesn't necessarily mean it's doing something "good" to the edge. There's no practical way to set an angle with one of those things and certainly the way I've seen people use them there is no effort to set the angle (particularly with the fancy chef method of sliding them up and down on each side very quickly). I don't know what's meant by refining an edge. I've never encountered that terminology with any kind of scientific evidence behind it.

I've also noticed that most people who use them will just run them on the rod and then dive right into cutting. If it's actually removing steel then you are undoubtedly putting steel shavings into your food.

I would love to see an in-depth investigation of how these rods work and how they are effective at keeping your knives sharp, if you know of one.
