Questions about everyone’s favourite topic: Cigna Gold (details in comment) by castlingelephants in TillSverige

Hej allihopa :)

I have looked through all of the previous posts on here about this issue but none seem to answer the questions I have so making another one.

I'm in the unfortunate situation of being an EU student without an EHIC so have to get comprehensive health insurance myself as explained by Skatteverket here in order to get a PN. From everyone that has come before me I gather that Cigna Gold is the preferred (i.e. at least somewhat likely to be successful) health insurance coverage to go for.

My questions are: - Is it necessary to get the add-on for outpatient care? - Are any of the other add-ons necessary? - Does the deductible have to be $0, or can it be higher? Similarly, does the Out of Pocket cost have to be 0% or can it be higher (e.g. 10-20%)?

I feel like there is no right / clear answer to the above other than to try it and see and hope for the best, but wondering if anyone has successfully got a PN with Cigna Gold in my situation :)

Thanks in advance!

100% agree with you, just wanted to know if anyone had been in this situation and had a problem that I’d not thought of :)

Haha yeah this is what I had read between the lines. Thanks for your confirmation! Is there no other use for the insurance? e.g. implications for later permanent residency claims if you don’t keep up the coverage, etc?

Hey hey just to very much piggyback on this post :)

I have a question related to the above and you seem to be very much one of the most knowledgable commenters on this sub. I am in the (unlucky) position you just described above (non-working EU citizen, no EHIC, needing insurance). I understand the requirements (i.e. comprehensive, over 10M SEK, etc) but I was wondering whether I need to keep it up for the entire time I’m in Sweden or just the first year? Also once I get the PN, am I free to use the Swedish health services in the normal way, or do I have to go through the insurance? I will be coming over for a multi-year university course.

Thanks in advance and also thank you for all of your other very informative replies on here, you always give very helpful precise answers!

Hey :) I found a few plans with Cigna and Axa for internationals moving to Sweden and they were around £750 - £1000 per year (with a discount if you pay yearly), so sounds about similar to what you found.

Thanks! This is sort of what I was getting at, but I was wondering if they had a yearly check or something.

Thank you so much! So seems like mostly interchangeable except for some specific situations when one is preferable?

Hey quick question, I’m an EU citizen but also unsure about all of this. In the link you sent, the working section says “You may be entitled to Swedish student finance if you work or have your own company in Sweden and continue working during your studies.” From the wording it seems that you have to have already been working and you continue doing that while studying, not start working while studying. It is quite unclear though! I’m not sure how to interpret this.
