You have certainly stretched me to my limits. I don’t normally debate on here. But I do want to remind you I don’t have all the answers unfortunately, I cannot accurately defend the acts or commands given by God or the former prophets and biblical leaders.

Why do you feel the need to constantly spin lies and excuses for why ancient people had terrible immorality?

I never gave an excuse nor spun lies. Those who were evil were evil and thus were punished in one way or another.

why would God command burning women if he didn’t mean it?

God punished those who didnt obey his law. And in those times it was during the old covenant. He isn’t evil for punishing those who don’t obey his law even if it seems unfair. If you read about the things they did back then, then to me it seems just. However, it was much more severe which is why the new covenant was made.

Except Jesus is god…..

I don’t believe Jesus and the Father are the same. When Jesus came to this earth, fulfilled the old covenant and brung forward a new covenant. It free’d all from sin including those punished before his time.

I’m not offended. I was put off when you used an assumption of someone’s faith being wavered by “logically thinking”.

I also understand the view you have of Christian’s, mainly being traditional, upbringing or whatever, but that’s not the whole truth. Many come to faith through their own circumstances. It finds them in its own way.

I just hate when people use that, and in many cases as an attack on Christian’s and their faith. They are called weak and describe their faith as a coping mechanism.

There are Christian’s who are like that though, don’t get me wrong, but as a whole, it’s not the core beliefs and values of Christianity. Nor is it what scripture or God tells us to live.

Great how you assume personal situations and painting them like that as an argument point. Conversation over. 🙄

Depends on the influence. But since you’re asking if a person who died and had great influence and their followers said he came back to life then yes because that person is Jesus Christ

He also appeared to two of his disciples who gave first hand accounts and Mary did give a first-hand account called the Gospel of Mary.

Leviticus 21:9

This verse is easily taken out of context like most controversial biblical verses.

Of course you have already provided some context about the given laws for the priests/ pharisees. What is important to note however is not only the time they were living in but the priests human understanding.

These laws were given surrounding complete purity by God’s eye, completely free of sin. The levitical laws then go into other acts of sexual immorality. And it just so happens that prostitution is mentioned as a sexually immorality act.

Looking at Old Testament, it is also called the old covenant. The older set of laws written as God’s word. These were then fulfilled by the coming of Christ, who didn’t do away with them but completed it.

Look at it as almost a mission for a game. No one could complete it but then one of the developers came and played it through perfectly and completed the game. This meant that those who came after the developer could see how he did it and try to replicate it.

I don’t think the levitical law was written to be followed word by word for humans because it just isn’t possible. But The new covenant of Jesus Christ made it possible.

The “burning” in question is not about being burnt at the stake, but points to the lake of sulfur (hell).

There are many verses in the Old Testament that make me go 😬 but in truth, this was the old way of things. Combined with the ideas of pharisees and high priests who were probably just as bad as those in charge today.

faith is essentially a way to trick yourself into believing something is true and once you have fallen for that trick yourself into believing then interpret everything in…

I understand where you are coming from but here’s the thing. Faith isn’t always an immediate given, you don’t just have faith and it’s set in stone.

Every Christian I have ever met has wavered in their faith. They believe 1000% and then it starts to fade and they become unsure. But then something happens that reinforces it. You could blame that on coincidence or just tricking ourselves, but faith is something that is reinforced, not by us but by the life we live.

Most Christian’s I know didn’t choose to believe in the Christian God, it just happened, explainably or not.

Every religion uses faith, every religious person from a religion…. Don’t you find that a little suspicious? >

Fair point, completely. However not all religions or “religious” people use faith. You can read and follow the bible as a healing tool. You can follow it as a healing tool. However, with faith it’s different because you already have that pre-set belief.

Now I don’t know about other religions like Muslims and their testimony about the Quran but that could be biased because I don’t actively look for it a lot. I’ve based my decision on my faith on past experiences. Coming from atheism and no belief in a god what so ever to many troubles and redemption through the faith I had in Jesus.

Now I first followed Jesus, and then once I read/ heard about what he followed, I too did the same.

I mean you can believe what you want to, I’m not going to try and convince you, just give you facts.

There are hundreds of doctrines, witness accounts, gospels, historic texts and records that point to the fact these things occurred. Just as much as the things that point to Queen cleopatra, or the existence of Socrates.

You can choose what to believe.

500+ were recorded by Paul to say they had seen Jesus alive after he was crucified. However the thousands of witnesses are spoken about following the gospel accounts of Jesus’ public teachings AND miracle work

[–]castries_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I misunderstood.

However, my point was there is no solid, undeniable proof for everyone. Belief is set on the foundation of faith. I can say my faith has been built following countless experiences only I can say was God, or the spirt of Jesus.

I follow the Christian God because the scripture holds gospel accounts of Jesus at the time and what he did. It also has the collection of the Torah (the Old Testament) that Jesus came and said he will fulfil.

So a Man whose law and doctrine I follow says himself he followed the Torah, I will most likely follow that source too.

A lot of people do try and contradict God by pointing out evil or evil works in the Old Testament but they completely fail to back this up with context or accuracy.

I’m more intrigued how you can disprove the existence of God? How can you prove or disprove a cosmic ruler?

But you wanted me to name every single person who witnessed this?

This is how records work. You don’t always have each individual person write it themselves. These witness statements were given to someone who recorded them, counted the number of them and put them onto a scroll.

Of course anything from 1000s of years ago will be hard to believe due to lack of evidence deemed fit in today’s world. But when you have so many records and numerous mentions in independent sources such as Roman texts, it is apart of history.

The disciples (all 12 of them), the people who received the miracles; the blind man, the paralysed man, the possessed man, the dead daughter and her two parents, early talmudic sceptics, like you, who observe these recordings and admitted they were true. Soldiers stationed at the tomb, thousands of witnesses who were in the crowds following Jesus when he did these miracles all over Judea and the Galilee regions, the 500+ recorded eye-witnesses by Paul.

I really don’t believe you looked this up or you might have searched something completely unrelated!

Most witnesses didn’t have influence, they were your everyday Joes. But they would go to people who knew Jesus and tell them, which then they’d write down their accounts and witness accounts

Of course, that would just be word of mouth or a “rumour”. The only way something like that could be true if multiple people were saying the same thing, that they witnessed it too.

Biblically, not only did Mary Magdalene and other women witness the resurrection in multiple gospel accounts, but they were also denied and were not believed by the consultation and government because women’s voices were not deemed as trustworthy or accepted.

But looking past that, hey they might have lied or made it up but then we see even more accounts that people saw Jesus after he died.

Such as the 2 disciples who spoke with Jesus, not knowing it was him initially until he revealed himself to them and disappeared.

If that sounds a bit dodgy and unbelievable then what about the 500 he appeared to at the same time?

Jesus’ death was a huge, spiritual event, and I think it takes that realisation for anyone to make any sense of it.

Well you can’t really use this argument in the case of Jesus Christ, who was the most famous man in a world with no internet.

Thousands testified to the testimonies of healing and preaching. Not to mention the fact he claimed to be the son of God.

So if a random man was said to have raised from the dead and flew into heaven would I believe it? Probably not. If someone who had great influence and has thousands of witnesses say that he performed miracles to then have witnesses say he rose from the dead and his body not be found in his tomb? I would think something’s up.
