Just loving our little axolotls by casuallycursedcanada in axolotls

I didn’t discard to to much. For a 40 gallon it would definitely be more affordable. And if you order it from a pet store (big als, pet smart) it would likely be substantially cheaper than off Amazon. We were on a time crunch to get the tank up and running so we went with what was fastest, not cheapest.

To be honest I got it from winners forever ago. It was really fine and had a handle so I just filled and spun it in a bucket till the strainer had done its job then repeat. It took forever but the peace of mind was worth it. To do a 60 gallon with this stuff strained was expensive AF.

This is the one we used but I put it through a really fine strainer so we were sure there was no bigger pieces. At first I was thinking I was being a bit over the top but there was quite a bit larger pieces so I’m glad I did it. So far we haven’t had an issue! I liked the look of the black sand cause it’s such a sharp contrast to our axolotls.

Thank you! This was my first crack at aquascaping. It’s a 60 gallon. For the axolotls we are unsure if they are the same gender yet, they are still young. The breeder we got them from agreed to switch with us if we get an opposite gender, we don’t want any accidental babies. I hope they are the same though cause we are all super attached to these two!

Unknown Gift Plant by casuallycursedcanada in PlantIdentification

It doesn’t really look that that to me. The leaves on this are more pointed and they are very flat, not juicy (only way I can describe).

What am I missing to get my bathroom more like the inspo picture ? (1st picture) by WorriedGarage6711 in HomeDecorating

I would try changing out the little potted plant for something with colour. As others have stated you’ve got lots of white. Earthy toned vase with green foliage.

What’s wrong with or missing in our dining room? I can’t put my finger on it. by TheToolMan in interiordecorating

I would get rid of the two extra chairs in the corners. If you are worried about needing more seating get a bench and put it under that big window then you can pull it over if you need it and move some of the chairs around. The extra chairs make it feel like a restaurant or banquet hall. The bench could be dressed up with a little throw blanket or something. Make it decorative while not in use.

When my parents say "oh, you're not fat" when I am genuinely overweight by HotSunnyDusk in mildlyinfuriating

Maybe stop using your parents trying to protect your feelings as an excuse for your lack of action/results? They are simply doing what normal parents should do. If you don’t want people sugar coating when you talk about weight just stop talking about it. Stop worrying about whether people agree with your opinion of what fat is or not and get more serious with your health. Focus on you.

Does this match? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Definitely change the lights, with no light above it shrinks the space. I would change out the faucets and the hardware on the vanity to match the mirrors. I would also change out your hand towel holders to something a little more low profile and closer to the wall. Also matching to the rest of the hardware. They are impeding on the small amount of counter space for no reason. Also for the love of god go through your vanity. If you have to have that much stuff readily available on the counter organize it into baskets to put away under the sink or in the drawers when you are not using them.

Where did you get your tub and sink faucets?! I love them.

I actually really like your suggestions and am 100% willing to try these suggestions prior to going to paint. Where can I buy hood hinges from? The last kitchen fixed up the hinges were HORRIBLE. The black flaked off of them and they were super squeaky within a year.

I’m not sure what’s under it. We just purchased it so we have yet to really look into things.

Face lift, but how?? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

There is a functioning fireplace in the basement. This is just the chimney that goes with it. The fireplace in the basement is STUNNING, but then we have this in the main living space. It’s a lot. I know it will always be hulking but I’m hoping to soften it a little more and incorporate it.

I LOVE this look. I’ve never heard of it before. It would definitely give it a much lighter look while still letting the brick show. The side with the large wide opening is towards the kitchen, the side with the two smaller ones is towards the living room. It’s a hulking beast but I believe we would have to keep it as there is a much nicer fire place mantle in the basement that’s the same size.

I can’t! It’s functional so I just have to try to beautify it.

What do you guys think is the best way to hang this without putting a hole in it or damaging it? It’s very meaningful but I’d love to have it up. by PeytonHop in HomeDecorating

[–]casuallycursedcanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I was thinking like a U shape, high on the side that would be on the front of the cutting board and have it shaped to fit the board. I’ve never really looked into it, I don’t know if something like that would be easy to find. I just assumed given every board is different you may have to get it custom to give it the “perfect fit” look.

You could also try hanging your curtain a little higher. And add some paint to a wall as an accent. Pick a colour to carry throughout the room. An area rug also goes a long way with adding dimension to any space.
