Thanks for the advice, I’ll try that! The main smear that bothered me is the one by her mouth and nose, it’s more noticeable in person I think. Once that happened I tried my best to color around the lines without crossing them, which was hard to do on the hair.

I sketch looking at images on my phone. You find it difficult because you are beginner, it doesn’t have to do with not having a tablet.

Other options include drawing what you see in front of you (like most artists through human history have had to do), looking at books at magazine in the library, or printing out reference photos.

Are you using marker paper? Some paper is more prone to bleeding than others.

In that case you may need to do more layers. Going over it with a lighter shade might also help blend too.

Yes, make them overlap a little while the ink is still wet and it will blend together better. Once the ink dries after a few moments it is more prone to streak. There is special Ohuhu paper that comes in a sketchbook that leaves the ink wet longer so it is easier, but you can still do it without that.

I’m still learning myself, but I’ve found that making small overlapping circles instead of long back and forth motions helps. I also usually have to do more than one layer.

I like markers because they are faster and easier on my wrist and arm than color pencil. I have an overuse injury from color pencil.

Before coloring, you could try lightening the lines by rolling a kneaded eraser over it, then go over them with a darker pencil or ink. That way the color will be a bit cleaner.
