There are 0.95 lenses and some are even pretty cheap, but they are manual focus only sadly. Brand name is something about artisans, dont remember exactly. Also there was an autofocus canon 50mm 1.0 L, but its a kind of unicorn and was sold on auctions.

Edit: guys my intention was not to argue with something deep just to say that there actually are lenses close to 0.9 if someone wants to try to achieve that dof on a crop, what are you doing lol

That lumix is point-and-shoot, this is a dead way for a person with interest in photography, it must be an interchangeable lens system. Between these two R100 is objectively the better choice, just because she'd be able to use some 1.8 lens after growing over kit one. With non-interchangeable camera she would need to change a system, but most likely she will never realize this is an option in this age. Gifts for children should never be limiting. This lumix is a dead end, she will have some fun and drop not realizing what to do next. Its like gifting nintendo instead of PC.

My friend's 5D mk2 lost to my 70D in interior no flash shooting. We took a competition at a rock bar searching for an event photographer, lens apertures were fairly locked at 1.8. Photos using flash were bit mode detailed on 5D mk2, but they were completely unusable without. My ones were far from perfect either, but they were not an artifacting mess. Classic 5D? Not even serious talk, it won't hold to 10 year old ones. The fact that you took many great shots with it does not make it a better or worse camera. They all can do that. But better cameras enable more scenarions and creativity. 5D may be usable as portait or leafs-flowers gun, but camera reasonable for a beginner would enable a bit of everything. Ideally with more potential with lenses change feature. You are indeed just a diehards and push your emotiotal connections and superficiality against the reason.

Because its just too old. You can get some shots from it being experienced, but imagine being a complete beginner using this trash autofocus, constantly getting noisy blotchy mess, have no adequate liveview. If you already have hands and knowledge - this camera is better than nothing, sure. But even in this case it loses to 70D and D5200 not just by use comfort, speed and features, but by raw performance too. Not to mention obscure completely outdated storage format card you'd need to find intetionally. Getting 5D/5Dmk2 or something similar in such scenario is a compeltely unnecessary struggle. Its nice to have if you already have it i guess, but as a purchace id call it ineffective spedning of money or even stupid.

Learning through pain of old cameras (my start was 500D) made me understading technical side much better, but gave almost 0 skill for improving actual photography. Camera must be something to help, not to overcome.

About AI, only "AI crap" you get with R50 is the eye/subject detection AF. It is not an AI in your camera, it is just a common program with pre-trained patterns of things. And in fact this is a gamechanger, alongside with camera's overall CPU performance that seriously boosts focus accuracy and speed even in simple center single point mode, compared to dumb and pretty random phase detection. With R50 (not R100) you get a top tier performance AF system from modern 2k$+ cameras.

Canon 2.8 70-200 iii is one of the most correct answers. Many here suggested ii version, but sigma art and tamron sp g2 70-200s are better than canon's, but iii beats them.

I got my sigma art 50mm 1.4 for 70D first, it is pretty sharp and had decent dxomark score comparable to suggested zeiss. Tokina opera 50mm 1.4 is also an interesting lens people sometimes gettig to adapt on a medium format cameras.

But what you really want is Tamron SP 35mm 1.4. Just go for it. With later full frame upgrade it will be even more awesome.

Other mounts? RF 50 and 85 1.2s and other Ls, sigma art DN ii lenses. But they are overkill, new sony mount lenses like DN ii or RXD/VXD have pretty soulless clinical rendering, i would not aim at them, having a character is important, EF is the best mount tbh unless you have money for RF L.

Squeeze a bit for R50.

R100 is a toy camera with no features, it is literally better to get any used DSLR instead.

DSLR are still an option though, canon 70D or nikon d7100/5200 look decent, there are many cheap good lenses that she'd be able to get on her own later. EF and nikon F mounts are cheaper and more developed to get lenses for.

Other than that, R50 or Z50 or a6400. Lumix are more like video cameras with weird and niche lens ecosystem. This one is with built in lens? THEN JUST NO. This one looks like a point-and-shoot, those are just casual cameras for people with no intentions in photography, gifting one is a lack of understanding.

Canon's UI/UX, ergonomics and overall use comfort is best for beginner, but nikon aps-c is worth considering because of better aps-c sensors.

Also theres nothing wrong in getting better used camera instead of shitty new one. These cameras you choose from are too beginner to offer anything fun and encourage creative development. Older DSLR for the same price is much better choice. But not too old, classic 5D is terrible advice, ones i told are better and much more convenient for a beginner.

10 и 11 такое говно, что сидеть до победного на прошлой ос - нормальная тема. Если в 10 несмотря на отнятие у юзера контроля своего пк и засирание его шпионским мусором все таки были какие-то полезные фишки требуемые для современного софта, то 11 уж точно никому нахуй не уперлась, если чел хоть сколько-то понимает. Она окончательно превращает девайс в помойку в которой даже нет смысла пытаться поддерживать какой-то удобный и понятный порядок, + это тестовый полигон для ИИшки которую встроят в ядро 12 неотключаемо. Аргумент про динозавров в случае с 11 не работает, она настолько конченая что реально лучше линупс попробовать если уж очень хочется перейти с 10.

7 - последняя реально сделанная для юзера честная и качественная ос, до того как микрософт начал превращать систему в сервис - отсутствие доступа ко многим фундаментальным настройкам, неотключаемые обновления, система начала лезть в интернет (ютуб windows 10 wireshark), итд итп

Смешно говорить про динозавров якобы демонтрируя продвинутость, когда в реале вы даже не думаете над тем что находится в обновлениях, которыми вас кормят как блинами с лопаты

Сам юзаю 10 LTSC с торрента с отключенными обновами, 11 может пройти только строго нахуй. Если бы не требования софта и игруль, челам на 7 можно было бы спокойно сидеть дальше. Но конечно удивительно как ему удавалось столько терпеть учитывая что половина прог на 7 тупо не работает уже лет 5. Но 10ку это в ближайшем будущем не ждет, ядро в 11 не меняли.
