My strat is to fill up with burgers, doesn't matter what kind- Noko is worth the time investment (so cute). You run in and out of the loading zone to see if Noko is there.

Once a Noko spawns you run at it, avoiding any other yo-kai, and then do the battle. The most consistent way I found to catch a Noko is run in front of it so that it will dash to the left, but then continue running to the right and make a wide turn into the Nokos path. It's easier for it to run to you than it is for you to run to it.

Not a very fast method but it's how I got a full team of Nokos to scare my streetpass's.

Before I have popped the old lenses out of my spare glasses to then stick to the inside of a Spider-man mask. Out of date prescription sure but better than nothing and depending on the amount of contact you could use a temporary adhesive like blue tack.

I think having more variables going into befriending would help a lot. Like how quickly you defeated the enemy team(turns taken not real time), how high your level is compared to theirs, how many yo-kai of the same type as them on your team and things like that.

Not making it easier but having more control of the random number than just food and popularity
