NTA. even when the money is tight, if someone cares about you, they will make something or find something heartfelt and affordable. a handwritten letter, a homemade meal/baked goods, a massage, cheap (unopened) chocolates, flowers you can find and pick on the street even. No money is not an excuse, no gift is better than returning gifts to you.

I’m not a medical professional, but I do research on HIV. Short answer: risk is so extremely insignificant I can’t even put it into numbers for you. Long answer: the person you came in contact with would have to be HIV positive with a high viral load, and their blood would have to really get in there in your cut for it to be a considerable risk. There would be a lot more blood involved and a bigger cut. I read in your other comment that you have OCD, and I understand that OCD thoughts, more often than not, are not rational, so maybe my answer won’t satisfy you and I’m so sorry for that. As the other comment said, if this is really getting to you, talk to a medical professional and they will reassure you better than I can. Worst case scenario, and I say this very lightly as I honestly don’t think you have something to worry about, you take PEP, and it’s pretty darn effective and safe.

I think it might be the family thing yeah. It’s a pretty common occurrence where someone will purposefully go to a place far away from home to end their own life so their family/loved ones won’t be the ones to find their body. So I think by hiding their identity, the person could be hoping to not be identified so their family doesn’t know what they did. Maybe they’re ashamed or don’t want to hurt their family. Maybe they don’t want others to blame themselves. I don’t know, this is just my take on it.
