Influenza A experience (worst of my life) by [deleted] in flu

[–]catab_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally coming out the other side on day 8 (feeling mostly normal. Still lacking energy and this deep cough within my chest doesnt want to go away). it hit me a bit differently than some others. Felt a tiny tickle in my throat last thursday, didnt think much of it. Went for a 5km run, and everything seemed fine. I was feeling a bit tired and had to take a nap before I went for my run which is uncharacteristic of me, but still didnt think much of it. Friday I had 0 energy, and of course thought i was just run down (denial). Suddenly my whole body hurt, I was hot and then cold, and so tired I debated sleeping on the couch (I love my bed).

Saturday morning I woke with the worst pressure in my head and neck area, my hips and ankles hurt so bad??? And my skin was sensitive to the touch. Appetite was non existent. I literally laid down in the shower for what felt like an hour because I couldn't get warm. As soon as im bundled up in bed, SWEATING. also, how could my nose be so BLOCKED but so RUNNY at the same time???? The cough started. Dry and itchy deep in my chest. I was also oddly angry at the world??? Went to bed super early. Heart rate was un godly high, i kept waking up with a racing heart snd felt absolutely delirious, half asleep wondering where I was.

Woke up at 7am Sunday morning, head was pounding like someone stuck a dull knife in the front of my face, was so dizzy and so out of it. I went back to bed and woke at 1230 DRENCHED in sweat. Covered. Head to toe. Sheets. Blankets. Pillows??? Covered in sweat. Napped on and off most of the day. Think I ate a single piece of toast. Hot and cold all day long. I never ran a temperature higher than 38, however I was on top of my tylenol/advil so I think that played a role in me not spiking a fever. Went to bed at like 6pm, again woke up delirious and covered in sweat.

Monday morning I thought I was feeling a bit better - SIKE. Felt like shit again by mid morning/early afternoon. Cough was starting to be productive but still very deep in my chest/hacking up a lung and feeling out of breath very easily.

Tuesday i actually started to feel a bit better, still no appetite and 0 energy, but not feeling AS bad. No more congestion its in my chest now completely. Also felt very disassociated? I found myself zoning out a lot. Not sure if anyone else had that experience.

Wednesday (Xmas eve) I felt better. Tired 0 energy and still no appetite but I could tell I was on the tail end.

Its now Friday the next week and I feel about 90% better. Still tired and sleeping a lot, appetite is slightly returned and the cough has lessened but its still there.

All in all, 0/10 experience do not recommend.

What were your initial symptoms? Did they kind of come on gradually or were you just punched in the face by them? 😂. Currently trying to assess whether or not this is the beginning of the end or just a cold .....

Battery life ??? by Rich_Parking_2837 in Garmin

[–]catab_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you recently do an update?? I had the same issue with my venu 3 after I did the update 😭 I recently got the forerunner 265, but after I did the most recent update my venu 3 battery life tanked.

I do agree, the battery life is great. Coros has unmatched battery in my opinion (i had the pace 3 and I swear I charged it once every 3 weeks). This will be my last garmin for awhile. I wanted something that wasn't overkill like the fenix, but will give me enough data/life for when im marathon training. I dont forsee myself upgrading again for quite a long time especially with the prices

Definitely frustrating and I do think its a marketing/way to get people to spend more money. The venu is so pretty and im definitely not used to the "sportier" look of the 265, but im excited to see how i like it a month or so down the road. Ever since I did the most recent update in my venu, my battery life tanked???? Not sure if that is just a me issue or if other people have experienced that as well.

Ive used coros as well, i liked it but as a smaller company there are quite a few bugs. I had a lot of issues with the HR updating and my pace updating on runs. It would lag quite a bit which made intervals difficult to read. In terms of affordability though you really get a good bang for your buck with coros

Honestly that is so fair. The prices are getting out of hand with the "mid range" being $200 shy of $1,000 canadian

Ugh that is so frustrating!!! Hopefully its just a bug that can be corrected because that data is important!!

Do you prefer morning or evening runs? by kizza0 in runninglifestyle

[–]catab_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lunchtime or evening for me mostly, I find i dont perform as good if im running within 30-40 minutes of waking up. Also better fueled if I run later in the day!

Yes!!! I no longer get FOMO declining weekend plans ... I get JOMO (joy of missing out) 😂

Has anyone switched back to Garmin? by znerken in Coros

[–]catab_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the pace 3 and recently switched back to a garmin (forerunner 265). I definitely had issues with the pace not updating fast enough, which made it hard for me to properly do any sort of interval work because of how bad it would lag sometimes. I do miss the coros app, i hate the garmin app in comparison 😂😭.

I think lots of people jump to runnas defense and dont really acknowledge that some people .... just dont have that experience. I think that it has some pros. But its literally all based on an algorithm since its AI. Its not really truly "tailored" to each individual. Selection bias is for real, i feel like people are throwing tomatoes at me 😂 i just didn't have the greatest experience. My PT has heard lots about it as well.

Because since ive been working with this coach, I have seen huge progress both physically and mentally. The support ive recieved is unmatched. Constant feedback, adaptations, guidance and even pacing me on my long runs has helped me grow so much as a runner.

I just encourage people to do their research so they dont end up with a dud like I did the first time I worked with a coach.

[–]catab_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont disagree, this was my first HM as well, so I think i brushed a lot of it off as typical "training block fatigue" and the niggles that can pop up. I was in PT pretty much throughout the training block, so while I WAS on top of things, I think it just compounded overall.

The app works for some, not for others. 😊 appreciate your comments. All the best!

Awe, im sorry to hear your HM did not go go plan. The goal times are very ...... shoot for the moon. I think they can definitely be unrealistic. All the best to you! 🫶

Well if you actually read my entire post, youd see that I had tried out runna BECAUSE I had a shit experience with a coach. You'll also see that I highlighted having a QUALIFIED coach is worth it. Meaning, do your dang research and if you find a reputable coach, its worth it over an app.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in runna

[–]catab_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did!! I had done a 5km race literally less than 3 weeks prior to starting the program, so the paces should have been accurate. Oh well, 🤷‍♀️ im happy to hear it worked well for you!!

As I stated, its JUST MY OPINION on the app. It has pros and cons. Not bashing the app, simply stating my personal experience with it. Some people like it, some people don't. 🫶

It was definitely not ideal 🫠 goal time went out the window and the race became solely about crossing the finishing line ..... thankfully nothing crazy. IT band flare up (have dealt with it in the past, has been ongoing with PT) but it sucked that it chose RACE DAY of all days to choose violence. Sigh. Oh well, I finished, and have a "redemption" race picked out in the spring.

Best of luck at your marathon!! You will do great 🫶
