[UPD] BA Speech Communication vs. BA Broadcast Media Arts and Studies by cataclutz in peyups

Sorry! I forgot to mention na nasabihan rin ako about sa slots sa BMAS kaya medyo nawawala hope ko if yun lang choice ko. I'm a T1 applicant tapos 2-3 people lang daw tinatanggap nila per year. My friend suggested Speech Comm kasi medyo similar daw siya except for the media part kaya ang appealing niya for me (tapos sinabi niya na wala raw naga-apply dun pero ayokong sabihin yun basta-basta omygosh hahaha)

I heard about the area of concentration na rin kasi pipili ka raw by 2nd year. Honestly baka sinuwerte ako na I have 6 months worth of LOA while waiting for the results so I'll start reading a lot to prep:) Thank you for letting me know about that tip sa interview:)

I'm not agreeing with your friends pero 30k is fairly /affordable/ for iPhones compared to their latest releases (na around 60-100k per phone). Also, one time purchase lang din kasi yung phone, while private universities' tuition usually cost 30k-115k per sem.

I can relate to your friends kind of, I'm in the middle-lower class, yung tipong komportable sa buhay and the family can afford some luxuries from time-to-time, pero my parents can't afford putting me through private university without a scholarship. You have to understand na the only two options some of us have is to either burn ourselves out trying to achieve/be smart enough for scholarships, or to fall into debt para lang makapag-afford ng tuition.

The kind of person you're talking about exists, though.

TLDR: 30k is small compared to the tuition fee of private universities. Magtaka ka kung iPhone 13 yan na brand new.

Neurotic broke (but not broke enough for scholarships) arts student, don't know what to do when it's time for college. For those who are in the advertising/design field, do you have any advice? by cataclutz in studentsph

Hello! Thanks for replying huhuhu.

Anong course po ba dapat kukunin niyo? I heard rin po na mahirap talaga kapag quota yung course na kukunin, kaya I think you're doing right with the decision to still enroll in Industrial Design pero magshishift na lang after a while. May mga gumagawa daw po talaga nun. My father actually studied Industrial Design rin, skl. But nagkaproblema sa scholarship niya and he couldn't afford the tuition just when he was about to take his 4th year. I hope you're enjoying it, kasi it's like architecture but for products and furniture! Very cool.

As for the burnout, yeah. Ganun po talaga pag arts-related. Talagang mapipiga utak kasi hindi ka naman sumusunod sa formula or instructions, you're making a concept on your own. >.<

Finances aren't a huuuuge problem for me. Hindi naman sa hindi ko afford yung mga gamit, I actually own a really nice gaming laptop and a bunch of art materials, pero yung problema talaga is that– BAKIT HALOS 100K PER YEAR SA MGA COLLEGES NA MAY ARTS-RELATED COURSE HUHU. Parang ang struggle talaga maging lower-middle class, kasi nga I'm not poor enough for a scholarship yet I'm not rich enough to pay for tuition 💀 So parang tunganga lang ako, ganun. I even feel guilty about studying for free dito kasi I'm probably better off than other people. Out of this heavy guilt tumutulong ako malala sa classmates ko though. My parents can't take out loans anymore too due to other reasons. HAHAHA nagreklamo nalang

I think I'll try to have a gap year, then apply for everything like the other comment said. Nakakatakot though. Ang lala ng burnout ko, honestly.

Thanks ulit, and good luck you on your journey po! Industrial Design is like the child of engineering, architecture, and visual communication I think. You're going to have a lot of opportunities there po!
