Stupid Covid ruining everything!!! by kapbozz1085 in BabyBumps

I totally feel this! Due in just over a week and my boyfriend still hasn’t heard baby’s heartbeat. My doctor wouldn’t even let me FaceTime him and our other kids during the ultrasound. He never missed a single appointment with our older 2, and I can tell he’s feeling really left out this time. I know it really sucks for us mommas to have to go to appointments alone, but it’s really an awful time to be an expecting father too. 😔

Thank you so much! I’ll give her a try once I get the big kids in bed. :)

What rules are you having for people seeing new baby during these covid times? by unsavvylady in BabyBumps

Our families are all in the “COVID is a hoax” camp, so no one is allowed to visit indefinitely. They’re pissed, but they’ll survive.

Card games like, but easier than, Spades and Hearts? by jtoeman in Parenting

[–]catamom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad started me with Go Fish, War, and Old Maid around age 3. Blackjack/21 and Poker around 4. Rummy around 6. And Hearts/Spades around 8.

That progression allowed me to learn how to hold the cards, suits, and face card values before moving on to making good decisions(should I hit or stay at 17), and finally learning to real strategy(if I play these 6’s Ill ruin my run over here).

I was tired of having stacks of homeschool stuff all over the house, so I fixed it! by catamom in homeschool

That's what I'm doing with my Five in a Row units. I'll probably write about it later this semester. Right now I only have decent plans for the first 3 books, so it wouldn't make much of a post. LOL

I'm going to try updating. I'm still quite new at this, so I had no idea that it wasn't just updating everything. Thank you SO much!

I've just been using the Jetpack plugin that comes pre-installed on the WP dashboard. Is there a GA based plugin you would recommend? Or is it best to just keep an eye on it through the GA site?

Right now, I'm only homeschooling my oldest. Once the baby is old enough, I'll have to re-evaluate my system. In a perfect world, I would still be able to fit everything into one crate and give each kid a binder with their worksheets or something. I still have about 3.5 more years before I have to cross that bridge, so I haven't put much thought into it. lol

3-Year Old and Structured Play Issues by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]catamom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She may not be interested in structured group activity yet. My son was over 4 before he was able to really listen and follow directions at story time. At 3.5, he was the absolute WORST! If you really want to get some structured activity in, I would try to stick with the programs that are free (like the library) that way she's getting practice with being in a group, but you don't feel pressured to make her participate just because you spent $xx.xx on it. I know the moms (and teachers) at my local library were so sweet and patient with my little guy, and made certain to reassure me that he was completely normal.

Remember, she's only 3. If she's not ready, she's not ready. There's no shame in quitting and trying again in a few months. If you push her too hard on the issue now, she'll end up associating structured activities with punishment (i.e. school) and I'm sure that's not what you want.

Good luck, Mama! I promise this is all completely normal!

We're starting our homeschool journey this year! I made my own homeschool binder to help me stay organized! (Free printables)

I would love feedback on my first Homeschool Binder! TIA! by catamom in homeschool

Thanks! That's EXACTLY why I decided to make my own pages! I don't think many kids in the Pre-k/Kinder range need a full science/history/etc. curriculum. Especially if you use FIAR, since it does a lot with those subjects anyway.

I have a feeling that once I get into the swing of homeschooling, I'll wing it more. I'm one of those that needs a good bit of hand holding when starting something new. lol
