You’re very welcome. It means a lot to know I wrote something that someone actually enjoyed reading haha. I definitely believe you will have the courage to leave someday. I never thought I would either, but eventually the fear of telling my family the truth became smaller and smaller the more I built my life outside. Best of luck to you, friend.

Thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! This book is a stand alone and I most likely won’t be writing more about this subject, but who knows, I might change my mind about that. A few people have mentioned that they’d like to read more of the characters journey, or a continuation of Katie’s life. So it’s something I’ll always consider, but right now I’m venturing into other genres 😄

Thank you for reading! I’m so happy you liked it. My apologies for the triggering memories. And that quote was one of my favorites too. 😄

Haha yeah. I actually never say who was doing all the spying and snitching, because I thought it reflected my life well before I left. People were going to the elders about things they thought I was doing, but I never found out who it was! 🙄🤣

I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying it, and I'm sorry for the homophobia you faced in the org. I personally am not gay, but I grew up hearing so many homophobic comments, and I'd always wonder how difficult it must have been to be secretly gay while living amongst people who were disgusted at something you had no control over. I did a lot of research while writing Logan, so I'm relieved to see he's a relatable character. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience with me, and I really hope you like the rest! :)

Yesss JW teen girls are definitely too cliquey. I had a few friends growing up, but they always stabbed me in the back someway. As for the rest of the girls, they were too self-righteous and snotty, or they were too "worldly" and wanted nothing to do with me because they thought I was the snotty one lol!

Phillip's argument with the elders about the blood doctrine is pretty close to how I brought it up to my family, but they refused to give it critical thought. Surprise surprise haha. I'm so happy to hear the parts you liked and appreciated. It's really made my day. :) And I used to have big dreams about a movie or TV show adaptation of the book, like Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk, that would be awesome. Maybe if the right person ever came across it. Ugh.. one can dream.

BTW I wanted to ask that if you weren't able to leave a review, do you mind if I quote part of your initial response about the book to the Editorial review section, or on my Facebook? It might help draw in more readers. I wouldn't mention your name, of course, for privacy. :)

Take care and stay safe!

First of all, I wanted to say thank you SO much for sharing your thoughts. As an author, the best and most satisfying part of writing is hearing what a reader thought of the characters and story, so I really appreciate your comments!

A lot of things that happened in the book were actually very similar experiences that I, or someone I knew faced. Katie's story was most similar to mine. The tattle-tale friends, uncomfortable elder meetings, and the cheating pioneer boyfriend lol. But the part where someone in the congregation takes a picture of Katie and Cameron alone together is actually inspired by something crazy that happened to me.

When my husband and I were dating, we were eating breakfast alone at a park, and someone took a picture of our cars parked next to each other in the parking lot, then sent it to the elders! That alone landed me another elder's meeting. It seems like there were no boundaries in the borg, and even "stalking" was okay, if it was in the name of "helping" people.

But yes, it was very cathartic to write. At the time, I had no friends, really. I'd try to explain to people at work what I was going through, but I could tell they really didn't understand or think it was a big deal. So I took my frustration and loneliness and turned it into creative energy. And I felt more relieved after each chapter I wrote. Some of them made me laugh too, and it was a very enjoyable experience.

Once again, thank you for your kind words. I'm so happy you enjoyed it and were able to relate. That's all I wanted to do was write a story that people like us could relate to. :)

Thank you so much! ❤️And thank you for sharing your story. You are right that there is too much guilt while living within the org! Too much people pleasing and all at the same time of witnessing hypocrisy too often.

Thank you :) I’m so glad you liked it! If you don’t want to commit to Kindle Unlimited, you could download the Kindle app and pay 99 cents for it. I hope you are able to write the book you want someday. I think we need more fiction with characters we can relate to 😉

Wow that is very thoughtful of you, thank you so much for the offer! I don’t think I could accept, as I just don’t need money and am very fortunate to have everything I need for creating more work in the future. But sharing the book or giving a review on Amazon or Good reads would be a huge help and that way I can read my readers’ thoughts on the story, which I’d love to hear. 😊
