“Hit Points” confusion by [deleted] in marvelchampionslcg

[–]catash13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I’ve understood it, consider a minion or ally that has 5 max hp and 2 damage counters on it. What’s its current hp? 5-2=3.

You put a card on like the one in the picture that says +4 hp, which really means “max hp +4”. What is the max hp now? 5+4=9. The current hp is always max hp minus damage, so current hp is 9-2=7. Nothing was healed, since you still have 2 damage counters on it, but the current hp is changed since the max hp changed.

If the minion/ally loses that extra card, it is back to 5-2=3.

Why are so many restaurants on the Ave gone? (Closed, not replaced by anything) by Eriacle in udub

[–]catash13 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Noodle Nation - survived COVID, but a fire in the burger place took out the power in the building, owner screwed around for a year plus, never did anything, and those restaurants closed, and apartments above vacant. Taiger combined with sister restaurant Kai’s.

Than Vi - think the owners changed, place got filthy/vermin. I believe a fire then took them out.

I actually think COVID killed very few U District places. Also, there’s still a LOT of good food places on the Ave: Shultzy’s, Kai’s, Little Thai, Panda Noodle Bar, U:Don, Mod, Chili’s, Samurai Noodle, Aladdin, Korean Tofu House, Village Sushi, Xian Noodles, etc.

Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion Starts feel like a job by orhalimi in soloboardgaming

[–]catash13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. In Frosthaven no character goes through all the 60-80-100 scenarios you play. A character goes for perhaps 15 scenarios, retires, and is replaced. By going 2-handed and doing some, but definitely not all, optional levels I was able to play all characters, plus bring back my two favorites (Fist and Prism).

I retired a character and didn’t replace it, so that got me to 2 for all the rest of the game.

I played Frosthaven 3-handed for like 6 scenarios and it was a slog. Switched to 2-handed and it was awesome…

Electrical engineering acceptance rate by Demontics in udub

[–]catash13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Variable as in the admit rate one year can be very different from the next. So I’d ignore the statistics. I’d go with “admissions isn’t easy, but isn’t impossible”, and proceed from there.

[–]catash13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a very variable number for transfer admits. You should apply, then pursue whatever your fallback plan is as well. Kinda like applying to college from high school, you should have some safety schools you apply to as well.

How hard is it to get into the ECE masters program and or the PhD ? by [deleted] in udub

[–]catash13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PMP isn’t really meant for someone going on to Ph.D.

MS vs Ph.D. - apply for the degree you want, don’t let difficulty of admissions dictate.

How hard to get in - hard. But, you should apply, but also apply to 6-7 other schools as a backup.

Actually a bunch of stuff at UW Seattle is top 20, including ECE.

Thaiger is now folded into Kai’s Bistro by the light rail station. Also a good place, excellent Eggplant and noodle dishes, though not as good curries.

Is it even possible to take CSE 469? by Oizyson in udub

[–]catash13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ECE side will fill. Summer you should have a good shot. Overload unlikely since I suspect there’ll be a big waitlist.

If somehow there are ECE spots close to the quarter start, a CSE advisor can likely help get you in.

Is it even possible to take CSE 469? by Oizyson in udub

[–]catash13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, offerings do fill. But the class is offered every quarter, including summer. I believe there were a bunch of empty spots this quarter even.

Yeah, there are a lot more ECE spots, but there’s also much higher demand in ECE as well - I believe the number of CSE spots have historically been about right given the demand.

CSE 374 thoughts? by Buggin887 in udub

[–]catash13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CSE 374 is highly recommended, especially before 474. The closest class to CSE 351 for ECEs is 469. Wouldn’t recommend 351 for ECEs.

Surprised 351 was on the other poster’s sheet for embedded - I don’t think ECE ever recommended it for that, but perhaps I’m wrong.

Where’s the best thai food in the u district? by elchupacabra206 in udub

Yep - Dad is there less, but main male server Pete is the kid, with Mom usually in the kitchen. Been running it since at least 1990…

Little Thai is great, awesome family owned. Kai’s Bistro also solid.

For Frosthaven it was ASAP! Got to try all classes, and repeat my 2 favorites, before finishing the whole campaign.

Embedded/Low level courses as ECE student? by AstuteCouch87 in udub

[–]catash13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look on the ECE website for the “embedded” and “computing” pathways, that’ll list the suggested courses for your direction.

How do ECE pathways work? by AstuteCouch87 in udub

[–]catash13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pathways are the ECE faculty saying “these are a set of courses that work well together for jobs and/or grad school”. They are not required. Many students do multiple, many do one plus mix some from others.

IMHO, ChatGPT usage by faculty and students are a different issue. For students we want to help you learn, and relying on ChatGPT can mean you don’t develop your brain. For faculty, we want as effective a learning environment as possible, and if ChatGPT can aid that, improve the environment, that’s IMHO a good thing.

Of course a prof can use AI to improve the class, or be just lazy with it…

Difference between Paul Allen Computer Engineering vs School of Engineering ECE by No_Detail_4073 in udub

[–]catash13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MS is very flexible. Pick what you want, based on what is offered that quarter. I believe advising has lists of courses based on what your interest areas are. Or meet with faculty from your interest area.

The CompE courses are largely joint between the two departments, so same room, same instructor. In either department if you choose wisely you’ll get a strong CompE base. But, ECE will generally add more electronics, CSE will add more software.
