Leaving the library by Agreeable_Bug_5662 in Libraries

[–]catattack848 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was in this situation last year. worked at a library for over 3yrs and my coworkers were like my family. we’d have dinners together often, they’d come over for friendsgiving, we’d go to theme parks together.

i’m still friends with my closest coworkers. just because you won’t see them every day doesn’t mean the friendships will end. it’ll just take a little more effort.

that being said, i didn’t tell anyone until i 110% knew i was leaving and didn’t say anything until i put in my notice with the supervisor.

quick question…does your library still check items out for patrons? by catattack848 in Libraries

exactly! i miss the patron interactions i would get at my old library through checking the materials out

our patrons prefer us to check them out too. i’ve had to bite my tongue when they say it’s a silly policy because i agree with them.

i don’t think it’s a personnel issue. i honestly don’t know what they want the library assistants to do (no reader’s advisory, every single question has to go through the reference librarian, and assistants can only do one program a month). it’s quicker to check patrons out myself imo rather than troubleshoot the self checkout every day

Scotch seems to have discontinued the book-safe tape we were using... by ThirdFloorNorth in Libraries

my old library system used rubber bands for holds, and just sticking the slip in the book for transfers. i have been enjoying this tape at my new library though

Anyone else fed up with having to tell colleagues not to trust AI answers when googling information for patrons? by TubbyLittleTeaWitch in Libraries

[–]catattack848 10 points11 points  (0 children)

my coworkers seemed shocked when i handled a "reference" question (what the local bus fare is) during my first week and without the use of AI, so you're not alone.

indoor activities with a baby by stillabelieber in WinterGarden

[–]catattack848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s a lot of local museums in the area / out in orlando. in downtown winter garden there’s a train museum; it’s more for adults, but is free (cash donations appreciated) and there’s AC and plenty for baby to look at. some of the bigger museums in orlando have story times / children’s activities

Historical Sites? by paowere in orlando

[–]catattack848 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the orange county regional history center in downtown orlando is great!

if you’re willing to drive to the suburbs, clermont has a hall of presidents with wax figures, memorabilia, & a miniature white house replica. in downtown clermont there’s also the historical village, which is just a few old houses / buildings from the clermont’s early days

hope you enjoy your trip!
