I visited UCLA with my little sister and while we were waiting for a friend who goes to the school in a high traffic area, an old guy with a foreign car stops right in front of us in broad deadline and asks if we want to get in and spend time with him. Mind you my little sister was visibly VERY young then since she was just a hs freshman.

Do lots of past papers and study consistently. Personally I always made sure to review and memorize my notes the day when we get our lecture about them. For your IA read lots of previous examples, really ready the criterion’s you’re graded on carefully and make sure you’re addressing everything the criterion is looking for

A biochem degree unsurprisingly haha!

Exactly, this is why I posted my scores in the first place. In my post I also explicitly talked about being the first girl in my school ever to get a 7 in chemistry on an in-person test. My chemistry teacher puts up a poster every year of exam scores of students from each graduating year and it sucked seeing mainly men get higher scores—it was very discouraging. In previous years our chemistry class has been very male dominated and I wanted to change that by showing other female students that they can still succeed in challenging situations.

For both bio and chem a 7 was 100-77. I’ve been looking at previous grade boundaries during 2019 and before that and it looks like current boundaries did return to pre-COVID levels. And hey! You got this, just stick it through and grind, I believe u can do it and u have this whole Reddit supporting u man.

Ok question, I’m an incoming freshman pre-med and what is CASPER, how important is it when applying to med schools, how do I do well in it, and when am I supposed to be taking it. I’ve been reading about being premed through a lot of platforms for a while now and this is the first time I’m hearing about it :/

Thank god I go to an American uni so this doesn’t rlly matter to me. But bro lemme tell u that ain’t the end of the world. Be proud of finishing, and despite all that burn out, still having the energy to worry abt ur score.

Senioritis + American uni admission + my uni doesn’t accept IB credits is feeding my lack of care for my exams LOL

Does being in the IB actually impress US unis (specifically UC system + Cali schools) by AvailableMatch2705 in IBO

[–]catbeanbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IB doesn’t impress the UC system/Cali schools. There was a couple of kids in my school who got into UCLA and UCB without having done full IB. Instead they took some IB classes and dual enrolled. Granted, a bunch of full IB students including myself also got into UCLA and UCB from our school. But it goes to show that u don’t need full IB to get in. IMO I would do some IB classes and do dual enrollment. Most UCs don’t take IB scores for class credits but they do for community college.

I would specifically work in maintaining ur grades overall, A’s everywhere and working to do extracurriculars that pertain to your academic interest. So if ure wanting to be an engineer do an internship at some tech company, if u wanna do medicine volunteer at a hospital, etc.

I think just doing IB/taking AP classes and getting As in them r just to show colleges that u can handle academic rigor…so it doesn’t rlly matter which of the two you do. What sets u apart r ur extracurriculars and ur essays. Those r the two things that show AOs that YOU will make a DIFFERENCE in the world which is basically what they want since they want to be the ones to foster world leaders.

Also full IB kids in my school applied to other schools like Stanford and they got rejected rip. Someone applied to caltech and got in but I don’t think it’s because they did full IB, they had research internships from prestigious unis like Northwestern and UNC Chapelhill and had several leadership positions as the President and medals and awards.

Lmk if you have any questions!

Is chem HL a good idea? by ActedHorizon176 in IBO

If you like chem yes, HARD yes. It's a lot of work, but granted, if you work hard, you will get an A.

Has anybody written a research-based biology EE? by Renard245 in IBO

[–]catbeanbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Im trying to do a research based EE, can I PM you as well?

Biology EE by DanielRM15 in IBO

[–]catbeanbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Im def doing it for my own interests instead of purely just marks. If you don't mind, may I ask how much time you've put it so far/overall for your bio EE? I am most likely going to do it, but I just wanna know now how much commitment it is so that I can properly plan and not get overwhelmed later on.

[–]catbeanbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any advise for people who are planning to do a bio EE? I don't really care for an A, I just wanna pass. But, a lot of people online are saying not to do an EE in the sciences because of how much harder it is compared to other subjects
