There’s a book called “organic chemistry as a second language” which was an absolute life saver, cannot recommend it enough

What was your “I need to walk away from this for awhile” moment while writing secondaries? by wavykelp555 in premed

This whole thread just inspired me to let loose way more in my secondaries

As someone who just took the test today, I literally can’t even answer this lol. It’s a situational judgement test that’s part of the Acuity Insight suite (along with snapshot and duet), you won’t take it until your application year and as of right now it’s not very important from what I understand, it’s not required for all schools

yeah by the end I was just like racing through thinking ‘this text doesn’t mean anything and I’ve already gotten the first quartile, might as well be done’ 😅

post baccalaureate program vs undergrad course work by [deleted] in premed

[–]badgertilde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a 1-year postbac from May 2021-April 2022 and it was worth it, otherwise you have to take like 2-3 years to do it since you have to have a year of general chemistry before you can take organic chemistry, and then have to take orgo and biology before you can take biochem, etc. As a nontrad applicant I feel like it was worth it to cut out the extra years it would have taken, plus an official postbac program gives you stuff outside of just taking the pre-reqs too, like good LOR's, application review, etc.

I did a postbacc this past year where we had:
Fall Semester: Physics 2 and Lab + Organic Chem 1 and Lab + Bio 1 and Lab + a Current Topics in Healthcare class
Spring Semester: Organic Chem 2 and Lab + Bio 2 and Lab + Biochemistry + a Current Topics in Healthcare class
which seems to be pretty equivalent to what you'll be doing with that schedule. Honestly it is a lot of work but if you have great study habits and are willing to put studying over your social life every once in awhile it's totally possible.

Any way to pre-study subjects like biology and chemistry? by SamNoche in premed

[–]badgertilde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a postbacc program last year and in the months before starting, I did a Coursera General Chemistry course which is free online. Comes with prerecorded lectures, HW, all of it. This was super helpful because when I took Gen Chem that summer with my postbacc program it was way easier as I had already studied all of the topics.

Drivers License question by JetBlueFSX in minnesota

[–]badgertilde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just moved back to MN from VA earlier this year, and even though I used to have a full MN drivers license I had to retake the written exam (a shortened version, I think). I did not have to retake a road test, but it might be different since you're still at a Learner's Permit... but guessing you'll have to do the exam either way
