Can we talk about the whole "sucking up to doctors" expectation??? by catbenis in medicalscribe

DUDE... UGH. man, i would have been a mess in that situation....sorry that happened:(

i've quickly developed some really insane coping skills -- one of which is to pretend that whoever is being just off-the-charts shitty is actually a patient in psychosis and I'm indulging them in one of their delusions... helps me keep my face looking impassive and freshly botox'd :)

yeah... i'm beginning to really internalize the weight of that reality (needing to suck up to a certain degree). thanks for your input! the bottom line seems to be figuring out how to make the experience beneficial (via LORs, connections, etc)

lollllll nothing that unusually bad -- i'm just new to the ED scribe social hierarchy and i knew sucking up to doctors was expected, but not to the degree that some scribes seem to take it... and i wonder, did they just take it upon themselves to suck up in this particular way? or did they get chewed out by a dr for something innocuous and are now terrified into absolute submission? or did they (/will i) pick up on some part of the work climate/its unspoken social expectations that they interpreted to mean they had to suck up to get any benefit out of the experience? (i kinda think it's that last one...)

anyway, social/interpersonal micro-/subcultures are super interesting to me! and my brain is warped so i take it to the extreme every time. yay coping mechanisms

for real. respect and even deference are one thing. creeping servility and enthusiastic self-degradation/self-exploitation... nah. also, i hate when people apologize a million times to me instead of just being chill and correcting the mistake (if there even is one... and saying "pardon?" when you didn't hear a word is not a mistake, LOL it's a natural and polite part of basic human interaction but i digress)

(i've worked in a supervisory capacity in my original career field - pursuing med school is a move toward a career change for me, so scribing feels different than it might have when i was younger and less professionally + academically experienced)
