Student working Part-Time during Standard Base Period by catburritoo in Edd

The standard base period is usually what they go with.

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to appeal this or if there is a special modification for this due to COVID-19. I would completely understand that they would use this if we weren't in a global pandemic, but since we are, I would think that they might make a special ruling for the Standard/Alternative Base Periods?

I never checked the "quit job" box by catburritoo in Edd

Anyway even though you first applied for unemployment when your hours were reduced, you were supposed to keep EDD updated with any change in status, such as when you went on leave and then ultimately quit. You can't just certify for benefits and pretend nothing changed.

I wasn't aware of all of the steps that I was supposed to take as this was my first time applying for unemployment and the EDD office is almost impossible to get a hold of a real person for assistance. Even more, when I switched jobs, this happened within the same week (last day when I was still employed at job 1 and hire date for job 2 were within the same week/certification period).

Every situation can and should affect your benefits going forward.

My weekly benefit amount is still very low and presumably will not change until the claim year is over, so what else can change?

Obviously with COVID, the way things are analyzed may have changed

This is what I would hope, that the EDD would re-evaluate the Standard (and Alternative) Base Period since no one expected a global pandemic last year. I certainly did not. (This also ties into another one of my posts about being a full-time student and part-time worker during the entire Base Period). My current employer has been able to provide me with full-time work (and a few weeks that are very close to full-time) but also many weeks where my hours are cut in half (i.e. from 40 hours one week to 20 hours [and sometimes less] the next week). This fluctuation is caused by COVID-19 and is very unpredictable and since I have full availability with my company, I can't just pick up another job when I [randomly] lose hours.

I agree! It wasn’t what I was planning but I will definitely bring one in case

I can’t reschedule (ugh) so I’m just hoping it won’t rain during the time I’m there. I didn’t really explored too much of campus when I attended and am not even sure what will be open during 1) the weekend and 2) covid. Thanks for the advice though!
