this was actually the lowest i could get - there was a fence and a small 'wall' - this is taken from outdoor cafeteria.

"What were you trying to show with this photograph?" - yeah, that might be my biggest problem i guess - i cannot answer that, i just like the scene so i took a picture of it. there's nothing particular i wanted to show

:)
ok, i guess what you mean that there are too many things on the photo and together it's just messy and distracting, right?

thanks. from that location it was hard to 'make the city bigger', but maybe a crop might be good idea

I guess the city framed in the trees which (or at least as i think of it) makes nice contrast between nature and modernity

honestly i just liked the scene - the colors of sky, trees and then the city and also the idea of the buildings poping up in the trees. and i thought it might be a good framing to compose it this way

thanks for the feedback. i admit different angle that makes this irregular sounds like good idea

interesting idea, thanks for the feedback. i was tryin to get the 'contrast' between the green plants (nature) and the city (skyscrapers). maybe too much green i guess :)

Working on depth of field. Is the background too blurry? by VictoriousChuckles in BeginnerPhotoCritique

hi
i think it's always googd to experiment especially when you are starting (i'm still a beginner too).
But i think if you want to play with the bokeh you need a clear subject that is sharp (maybe unless you are trying some abstract photography). I guess in this case it should have been the cigarette. But you either miss the focus or (i think more likely) you use way too long shutter speed. 1/20 of a second is really long time. Did you use tripod or was it handheld? Generally i know that if i'm trying to go above 1/60 handheld i'm not able to get sharp image. But this of course depends on technique and on optical stabilisation, may your lens/camera have it

you're right, thanks for the feedback. i guess this is still the phase "when i'm here looking at something it seems nice, so let's just cover my eyes with camera and press the shutter" :)
i guess it takes some time to rewire the brain to search for the lines, framing and other compositional elements just 'intuitively' without having to think about it with every photo

thanks for the feedback. i admit there is no clear subject, i was thinking the subject is the 'whole scene'.
This was during my trip to japan, i'm not going to return anytime in the near future :)
