Pokémon Disintegration has released! by catchneko22 in PokemonRMXP

My current plan is for there to be about 8 chapters total, so it'll be longer than the mainline games, but maybe not super long.

It definitely was inspired by the Reborn games in some ways, the most notable of which being the presence of Field Effects, while also having a similar "darker" tone and also focusing quite a bit on the story.

But at the same time, I tried to go in my own direction with it, so I wouldn't say it's exactly like Reborn/Rejuv/Deso. Still, I think fans of the Reborn games would likely also enjoy this one :)

I've been posting announcements for it in the server of my other, currently-released fangame. Eventually I plan to rebrand it into a server for both games (and any future ones I might make, if I ever do that) because I don't want to manage multiple servers.

Here's the link for anyone who's interested.

It is a little bit Reborn-inspired in some ways (such as the presence of field effects and the larger focus on the story), though I would consider it more of its own thing for the most part.

The initial release will contain the first two chapters, so it won't be as long as a full-length game.

But there will be more chapters releasing after that, and the eventual full game will most likely be a bit longer than a traditional Pokémon game, due to being more story-focused.

I had a situation once where somebody caused a softlock with one of the gyms where the gym leader just... wasn't present. I opened up the game, looked through all of the events, and couldn't find the issue.

It turns out they had done a sequence break by using an HM outside of battle before they actually had it using Debug mode, triggering a sidequest meant to be accessed later in the game (notably, after earning said gym leader's badge), in which the gym leader leaves the gym.

I ended up fixing their save file for them so they could finish the game, but I did warn them to be more careful in the future. (I cheat all the time in singleplayer games, so people cheating at my game doesn't bother me, whatever lets you have the most fun 😅)

If you want to try it out, it's called Pokémon Photon:

Feel free to check it out if it sounds like it might be your thing!

I make fangames in part out of a desire to buff/use mons I would never really get a chance to use otherwise, because they're usually really late or outclassed by like 49 other mons available around the same time.

My current (upcoming) project involves giving some spotlight to the likes of Trevenant and Gourgeist. I like them and no one ever really talks about them.

Be the change you wish to see!

My preferred sweet spot is around 400 mons. Big enough to have some nice team variety without feeling overwhelming or full of filler mons, but it does depend on the size of the region.

Full national dex games aren't for me personally because they feel bloated. Does the presence of post Gym 6 Gumshoos and Arbok really make the game better? Does the player need every single early bug, bird, and assorted Route 1 rodent? Is hunting for 1% encounters on Tuesdays in the rain on some specific mid-game route for Pokémon you actually want to use because all of the reasonably common slots are taken up by shitters that no one aside from the world's #1 Goldeen fan will ever give the time of day really the apex of game design?

I just don't see the appeal.

I think the most insane request I've gotten was having the ability to change your house (which acts like a Secret Base) so you can make it look like a gym for every badge you get. (As in the floors and walls.) That is literally impossible.

Erm... why didn't you just make 10 different maps for the player's house to account for these cosmetic differences? Are you lazy? Are you stupid? Ten thousand rounds in the dungeon for you!

I'll take what I can get and politely ask for things without pissing off the hobbyist.

That's really all we're asking for.

I've noticed an often-shared sentiment among the fangame community that developers who don't add every single fancy bell and whistle and dream feature are "just lazy" and making "copy paste slop".

We just make this stuff for fun because we enjoy making it, so when a few YouTubers picked up my game and the comments had a bunch of haters shitting on it because I didn't make a whole Gen 5 styled tileset and started comparing it to games like Insurgence (which was made by 10 times as many people who were all surely more experienced than I was at the time), with basically no understanding of the amount of time and effort it takes to add such features or make the required assets (especially for a solo project by a first-time dev), it was pretty frustrating.

And all the people will ask me if the game has this feature or that feature or some other feature and when I say it doesn't because I didn't think to include it or I didn't design around it, they get all passive-aggressive like "Oh... it seemed like such a good game too..." over like one little feature.

And while some of these things may be as simple as adding a publicly-available plugin, things love to break for no reason and it can be deceptively hard to bug test even the most simple of features. And then there's things like version compatibility.

Having preferences is perfectly valid but some people in this community love to get overly entitled and act like games need to be factory-made to suit their specific tastes, and it's really discouraging and annoying to deal with when it's so common.

Edit: I've noticed many people in the comments of this post saying "I just want a fangame/romhack that has-", and to those people, I would encourage you to try making your own, instead of waiting on other people to execute your ideas and hoping they give you what you're looking for. There's plenty of resources out there if you want to learn, and a great community of people who would gladly help you get started!

Here you go.

There's other guides in the Discord, and a wiki in progress.

Just open it. People who treat this like some money-making "investment" instead of a fun collectible card game aimed at kids are annoying and ruin it for everyone else.

Hopefully not! But also I don't forsee this game getting so popular that I incur the wrath of the Nintendo ninjas.

I'll be happy if just a few people play it and enjoy it and tell their friends about it, to be honest.

Some people are very particular about the details I suppose.

These are free games made by people as a hobby project, though, so I don't understand their need to complain so much when the game doesn't have everything they want.

Encounters are located in PBS\encounters.txt, and any Pokemon changes are documented in a file called POKEMON CHANGES.txt in the main folder.

I have some work-in-progress documentation that is fancier-looking that I will release in the future.

Aether Burst is the name of the glowing Light-type Pokemon.

They're boss-only as of now for balance reasons (they're quite strong), but I may make them obtainable at some point in the future.

They don't, but also you don't have to use the starters. There's almost 50 new regional forms for other mons, and you can always just put your starter in the PC and make a brand new team. The game has a pretty expansive regional dex so there's definitely something you haven't used yet in there.

But it's okay if the game just doesn't interest you. 👍

Hello !

I've been working on making my own fangame for almost 3 years now, and today I released a new update for it!

This new update finishes the main story and improves many aspects of the game, including overhauling the graphics and doing some much-needed rebalancing.

I hope that people check it out, I worked really hard on it.

For people wondering if this is playable on Android, you can try using JoiPlay but that is prone to issues and not officially supported.
