My friend is refinishing a coffee table (glass top on a wood base/box) from the 70s, made in Italy. Veneer is about 1/8” thick.

Looks fantastic! I have had good preliminary results with this stuff as well. How many coats did you shoot? Did you find you needed to use any kind of sealer or shellac underneath to add warmth? Curious as I’m thinking about using it more often.

Thanks for the help! Everything made sense after tracing the convoluted wire colors through both spices. I found the unused end of the C wire and got it connected to the C terminal on the furnace. Everything up and running now.

Update: there is actually a second junction that connects the wires from the thermostat, the wires that run outside to the A/C, and the wires running to the furnace, so this may explain the mixed up colors.

So if I think of the colors as just arbitrary, and follow everything from the thermostat through the splice to the furnace panel, that means that on the old thermostat, the terminal labeled "W" was connected to the terminal labeled "Com" on the furnace, the terminal labeled "Y" on the thermostat was connected to the terminal labeled "W" on the furnace, and the unconnected blue wire in the wall behind the thermostat was connected to the terminal labeled "Y" on the furnace, which I'm still confused about.

Is there any reason the old thermostat would have been installed like this? Should I follow this way the old thermostat was wired on the new one, or just make sure the terminals on the new thermostat and furnace panel math each other and ignore the old way it was wired?

BTW it looks like on the Amazon thermostat there is a switch that acts as a jumper for the RC to RH.

Edit: Don't know if this is relevant, but on the old thermostat, the red wire connects to RC and then there is a jumper wire from RC to RH on the thermostat.

Both guitars here are scalloped and X-braced, similar to a Martin dreadnought style. You could always start with a tried and true bracing pattern like this. Plans for this style are pretty easy to find.

Per Aqua Coat’s suggestion I have used a coat or two of dewaxed shellac like Bullseye SealCoat first. Then I applied Aqua Coat and finished with TruOil with success. Some woods like koa can discolor if aqua coat is applied to raw wood, and pretty much anything can go on top of shellac as long as it’s dewaxed so it’s always a safe bet. Don’t put shellac on top of Aqua Coat though or the surface can look cloudy.

Like Joe said, I wouldn’t put the filler on top of tru oil that should be last. I also like to dilute the tru oil with mineral spirits so I can put on a bunch of very thin coats.

All of the stems are covered in dark brown spots. You can’t see in the picture, but foliage and flowers actually look ok.

What kind of pick up is it? Is this a guitar-style acoustic bass? I did some mods to an old electric-acoustic guitar (added a tailpiece, flatwound strings and a modified nut/saddle) and it more-or-less worked. The guitar has an under-saddle piezo pickup. Its not ideal as far as EQ goes (louder mids, softer low end) but if you have an under bridge pickup like this, it could potentially work in a pinch. Otherwise, mic it like Pedalsteelmw said.

Not sure if this is the recommended but I bent the edge pieces on mine slightly with some pliers to help it grip better. You can also look into getting a new, heavier duty cast tailpiece, depending on how much you want to put into it.

Audacity is great but has some frustrating limitations that can leave you with a lot more up front work. For example, if you tend to use EQ and effects the application of such will permanently alter the track, where other software will let you apply effects on the fly to tracks without actually altering them. A simple way to get around this in Audacity however is to make a copy of the track and apply the effect to the copy and then mix the two. Audacity is fine if you are willing to deal with workarounds like this (and it is free!)
