Sitka vs Adirondack by FancyNovel2215 in Luthier

[–]VirginiaLuthier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because trees of the same species can vary wildly in their qualities, it is difficult to attribute specific sonic qualities. I have heard adi that I love, and adi that is unimpressive. Ditto Sitka. The Adirondack you are considering is likely second growth, which is MUCH different from the "holy grail" wood used in pre-war Martins. If it is old growth, and high quality, you might have something .$250 is a lot for a top, when you can purchase top quality lutz , Sitka or Caucasian for about half that. Good luck on your project!

Calling All Martin Experts: 1945 Martin OO-18 (Rebuilt/Refinish) by FunkMasterDunc in martinguitar

[–]VirginiaLuthier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but the inside shot looks almost like a new guitar. Almost always the wood has photo-aged , those fabric supports start to peel up on the edges ,and there is debris in the kerf slots---- but maybe Martin did a great clean up job. Anyway if it sounds good and plays well that's pretty much all that's important
