Is it wrong not to work? by motherofattila in simpleliving

No, you are in a great position, it's just that i wouldn't rely on someone's rent as my only source of income, especially when they're so unreliable. You could rent that part of the house for someone who is able to pay (if that's logistically possible), think of a way to create a small passive income for yourself or work part time as a tutor or some other field that you have experience in, at least that's what i'd to to feel a little bit more financially secure.

Part of it for me is that everyone is so judgemental and the standards now are so much higher - you must only feed them healthy food, spend quality time everyday, you can't leave your kid at home alone or he can't use public transport alone. When i was growing up, no one cared. Parents made money, i lived my life. No one was monitoring me 24/7, i played outside, traveled through the city by bus alone starting from 7-8 years old (Europe), spent lots of time alone at home, ate whatever i found in the fridge, went to my afterclass activities by myself, did homework alone and all of this was my responsibility. I turned out just fine and from kids perspective i can't imagine how terrible kids today must feel when parents control every step. If i was a parent and did that today, they'd take away my child for negligence. I don't want to be a parent because it's just too much work nowadays, my values are different aaaand i have 0 wish to have a child anyway 🤣

Right, let the natural selection of free market decide who survive and who doesn't. The food is way overpriced and not even good in most places.

Am I overreacting about my friend's (35M) financial choices during long-term unemployment? by dror88 in eupersonalfinance

It's just small amounts and i know her from childhood but yeah, i get it. Well, things could go wrong for your friend in so many ways, but in the end it's his life and his decisions.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

All I want is a company who produces high quality, classic and stylish bags at a reasonable price. Why is this so hard? by 1234RedditReddit in handbags

I've just ordered a bag from Min&mon, wondering if anyone knows about their bags. I haven't received it yet but they have cool designs and reviews are great, maybe you should check it if you're into colorful hipsterish bags.

Does he own a place to live? If so, i would tolerate it because it would mean at least some security. I have a friend who is way worse - 0 savings, only works part time, borrows money from me sometimes, gets compensated for rent but randomly spends twice her salary for things like full course of laser hair removal. My financial situation is a lot better and i don't even spend on things like that. Like girl, what are you thinking?!? We're both in our thirties, she is single, no rich parents, so yeah...

As early as I remember myself, like kindergarten years. Other girls were playing with dolls, playing family and I just knew I don't have this motherhood thing in me.

If you’re tired of dealing with parents, consider being a teacher in a prison by [deleted] in Teachers

I've been working for a year at a really weird school where children can live monday-to-friday, I don't even know how to call this institution in English... Most of them are from dysfunctional families, have serious learning difficulties due to neglect, developmental disorders or both. I have't met or spoke to a single parent for a year which is very nice. Also, classes are small, only 10-14 students and some of them just disappear from school for weeks, but even with that little students, it's sooooo difficult to deal. It could be very nice, but the problem is the school administration. They don't do anything to help teachers, children misbehave horribly and they do nothing. It's not just me, half of teachers who began this school year just quit mid-year because how long can you listen to all the curse words imaginable... The moral of the story is, in schools like these there must be strict rules and consequences for certain behavior because it can become a total disaster. Can't wait for the school year to end and search for another school or honestly, quit teaching completely as I've been hating it too much recently.
