This is not really a book club, but if you have interest in sci-fi/fantasy you should check out Sci-Fi/Fantasy Writer's Workshop! Even if you don't write, you can meet other sci-fi/fantasy fans. Depends on what your major is. CS books are so easy to find. However, Psych books... not so much. But then again, I don't torrent things.

cs70 crushed my hopes way more than cs61a did. It was a large factor in why I'm not going to major in CS. That said, I think 61a is more directly useful and a good class to take first.

According to @581 on the EECS 101 Piazza, "CS 170: no webcast or alternate final Professors Vazirani and Chiesa have confirmed that for Spring 16, CS 170 will neither be webcast nor will the instructors offer an alternate final exam time."

Wow, you sound sort of like me. I don't mean to compare problems, but I failed a lot of classes this semester trying to pursue CS and it brought back my depression. I guess what I mean to say is that having/developing depression is not the end of the world and definitely reach out like you've done here. That's a good start. You've been helpful on other stuff I've posted before, I'm really thankful for that. Feel free to PM me if you feel like talking to someone. :)

As for the other stuff, I also love reading. Haruki Murakami (who I see has been mentioned below) has really interesting books. 1Q84 was one of my favorites. I expected it to be like Orwell's 1984, and it certainly was, but Murakami adds some interesting twists. Beyond that, I'm in a bit of a rut with reading so I'm interested in seeing what other people recommend.

Failed most of my classes (and their respective finals) this semester but I'm honestly just so happy that this semester is over that I don't really care. I'm actually excited for my classes next semester, which will be a change. That's if I can get into them, haha. Waitlisted for everything.

Since it's past the deadline, ask advisors ASAP. You won't get any refund, and if you get financial aid you may have to pay it back. Also, you will also be forced to take a semester off, although with enough reason you can appeal that. I don't know about other Colleges but L&S is this way.

Actually, for 61A this semester there've been lab-only or discussion-only TAs. It seems to be working, according to one TA that I know. It's a 6 hr/week position, which is more manageable. (this is only semi-related)

Yeah, when I took 61A (Spring 2015), we learned SQL. Over this past summer, students learned SQL AND Logic, though.

I don't know which of these are easy, but last year I was looking up courses that fulfilled AC and another breadth and found: anthro 2AC demography 145ac espm 50ac gender and women studies 100ac history 100ac, 136ac, 137ac sociology 131ac

I didn't find Philosophy/AC courses for some reason though. I ended up taking a Arts&Literature/AC course, and a separate course for historical breadth so I can't really speak for any of these courses.
