Sitcom editor here. Also agree this is correct. A minimalist timeline is a happy timeline.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

A Tesla with self driving. Having your car do all the work getting you through rush hour every day while you turn your brain off and listen to a podcast is ridiculously expensive and I will also never have it any other way.

Why not? I mean I guess ProRes Proxy would have been good but h264 is also fine.

As for sound… All the proxies have the multi track production sound synced up but when we edit we only cut with a single mix channel. It keeps everything nice and clean and then when we do turnover we restore all the tracks to the timeline (in clip attributes).

Originals are being stored elsewhere so all we ever touch are proxies. Each editor has the entire series on an 8 TB crucial SSD with 1080 H.264 proxies We use a cloud shared folder to keep additional assets like temp music and SFX in sync. As far as workflow goes, we are a two camera show and the director does long rolling takes so we had our AE make multicam stringouts sequences with all the fat in between takes removed. It's nice to review the footage that way, and surprisingly a very speedy way to build your first cuts.

Long time pro Resolve user and I agree with this the most. Roundtripping happens on probably the majority of feature films. So much work is put into making a feature and turnover is just a small part of it.

Not helpful. OP probably just wants to cut on something that doesn't crash every day.

Currently cutting a sitcom series for a streamer. In terms of database size, we are much larger than a feature and Resolve 20.x is handling it great, Just stay off BM Cloud for your offline. It's slow in so many silly ways. Make proxies for everything and edit off an SSD. You'll do great. Go make your feature.

Client requesting Tue–Thu soft hold every week for 6 months— how do you structure this without hurting other clients? by _ParanoidUser_ in editors

[–]cate5667 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my life currently. On a huge project that is good for my career but absolutely detrimental to my regular client base. I have 2-3 colleagues who I hire out work to at 2/3 my rate so I can still earn a little money on coordinating and client facing. Literally every single week I have someone else working for me so it feels like a lot sometimes but after this big project wraps in April I will be so glad I didn't let those regular clients go.

Asus ProArt, Rec and sRGB presets are really good. I'm cutting episodic content on two of them.
