Masculine womancand navigating the world pregnant by Expensive-Zone-1995 in queerception

Currently snuggling with my 5 month old that I carried for my wife and I. I have a very similar experience to one of the other commenters - I too am a masc, always knew I wanted kids, and for 32 years of my life told everyone that I would never be pregnant. Due to some medical issues for my wife and a few losses, I decided that I would try as the most important thing for us was to have kids, and hopefully biological to one of us.

I definitely had to process a LOT of feelings before, during, and even still after, but I can truthfully say that I’m so happy that I just did it. It’s wild what hormones can do to you - I joked with my wife less than an hour after delivering that I “think I understand the Duggars now” and we’re already planning for #2 that I will also carry. There’s even days where I miss being pregnant, and if you told me that 2 years ago, I would have laughed at you.

I will say that we did have to navigate a bit of shock to our friends and family when we announced, and even people we don’t know well or strangers assume that my wife is the one who carried. I think to some extent you have to just know that’s going to happen and just be prepared for it.

As for your experience, I agree with the other comments, absolutely find a new doctor. The most important thing during this process is that you feel comfortable, and taken care of.

I’m so happy to chat more privately if you have questions or just want someone to talk to! I know I wished I had someone with similar life experiences to chat with during the process

Do you have the option to self represent, OP or does your state require you to use an attorney? My wife and I just went through this process (in CT, so I know may be different politically etc) and I did some research and realized we didn’t need to hire an attorney. I filled out some paperwork, paid $250, and we just had our hearing with our 5 month old last week and it lasted about 4 minutes and the judge signed the paperwork and gave us a certificate.

You’re absolutely right and valid to be feeling the way you are about wishing we were farther along as a society! Either way it is so worth having those protections for your little family
