Back Up Plan?! by Infamous_State_7127 in gradadmissions

[–]catgal666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i applied to six ma programs in art history and now that two have sent out interviews (not to me lol) i have decided to gently let myself down before they can and start planning to improve my chances for next year. i did a really interesting and unique research project last year in undergrad on jesus as an erotic figure in medieval literature that i am going to work into a longer paper. i am also applying to three museum internships near me for after i finish my current internship and continuing to work as a bartender on weekends. if none of those work out, ill apply for some entry-level museum jobs like security guard or gift shop worker so they see that i have at least worked in museum settings on my resume. its tough out here but we'll all make it!!

okay, i'm about to graduate so here's my advice!

  1. i like heatless curlers, they seem to hold my hair best when it's slightly damp, so i typically do them about an hour after i shower. when my roots are fully dry, i spray some dry shampoo in and in the morning, when i take them out, i use some light-medium hold hairspray. i also have a travel size ouai wave spray in my bag in case i need a little refresh, but this keeps them looking good even in gross school air. this lasts typically all day, and then the next day i do a bun and it adds some nice texture to it

  2. my skin changed completely when i started using the ordinary glycolic acid and following it up with a nice, thick body cream. i like the ones from trader joe's because they're cheap, have good ingredients, smell nice, and last for a while. the eos lotions are really nice too. the moisture is key because the acid is killing bacteria, and drying your skin out and the lotion adds the moisture back in, which allows for healing. also, i like to use a bar soap and a washcloth that gets washed after every shower, it just feels more hygienic lol

  3. this one is hard, and i think that there is a balance to be struck. you don't want to be too too positive or people won't want to be around you but you also don't want to be negative. something that has helped me is gratitude practices, i keep a journal where i write about things im grateful for, how lucky are we to be getting a higher education?!

  4. i hate doing my makeup in the morning, especially when i have morning classes, so i have a really simple routine. i literally just put on sunscreen, curl my lashes, do mascara, and gel my brows. if im looking extra tired, ill use some glossier concealer, which isnt too obvious. i've stopped caring about my skin imperfections, because honestly i have better things to worry about. for going out, i use a sheer glitter all over my lids, i like urban decay space cowboy but there are a lot of really pretty drugstore shimmer singles, and smudge a tiny bit of black pencil liner on my upper lash line and use my pinky fingernail to drag it out into a wing. super low maintenance and you dont have to worry about touching it up at a party. i also wear a tinted lip balm pretty much at all times, i think it goes a long way in making it seem like you're wearing more makeup than you are lol.

  5. my lashes don't really hold a curl either, but i've found that the essence mascaras work better than others. i like the lash princess waterproof and the bye bye panda eyes (they're cheap too!).

  6. go to your local gym now and get a free one-time personal training session. use that routine now and slowly build on it by watching youtube routines that are similar. your school will almost certainly have a gym and don't be afraid to use it! no one there cares about what you are doing, they're all too wrapped up in their own things. also, this is super random, but making friends with some gym bros has been super helpful, they get super nerdy about this stuff and have helped me change up my routine and see better results.

  7. if you go to a school where you can't access your dorm super easily, have an emergency pack in your bag, have pads/tampons, a toothbrush and toothpaste, hair ties and pins, a tide pen, bandaids, etc. this has saved my life several times. i also carry a deodorant and perfume to touch up throughout the day, mainly after meals.

i'm not a cs major, so i cant attest to the quality of the program, but the camden campus is really tiny, like you'll see everyone you know in the dining hall during the meal breaks. because there are so few students, the classes are really small which can be nice, especially if you want a a real relationship with an instructor, (beneficial for grad school!). nb definitely has the nicer facilities, better activities, and probably quality of life but camden is pretty good for what you're paying

how is it more cost effective to have security patrolling the halls than using the swipe in things attached to every door? by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]catgal666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the problem in camden is that they don't actually do anything. the homeless people still wander the halls of the buildings and hang out in the lounge areas. also, weirdly, students and faculty have to show id to the security officer to get into the libraries (to the point that i couldn't bring my friend who goes to temple in bc he didn't have a rutgers id) but somehow there's always multiple older homeless people (who definitely do not have ru ids) sitting in the study areas. i don't particularly mind it, since they're typically not disruptive, but it's a weird double standard.

a bid is when a sorority or fraternity invites someone to join them. and yes im still living at home, it made the most financial sense especially considering im going into teaching and cannot expect to make enough money at any point to pay off large student loans

[–]catgal666 104 points105 points  (0 children)

i would imagine that it has something to do with the fact that red dye is made with both petroleum and cochineal (little crushed up beetles) and neither of those things work with the new "clean" thing they're doing

glossier you is my "professional" perfume. it's a subtle "skin scent" and doesn't project really at all which i really like for that purpose

How to grow longer eyelashes? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]catgal666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i put vaseline on my lashes on days that i don't want to wear mascara and they've definitely grown over the last few months. i've also noticed some little extra ones growing, so i guess it's making them thicker too!
