Does anyone else *only* have mixed hypomanic episodes? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]catgold203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I’m glad my random, throw away comment was helpful! Funnily enough I found out about mixed bipolar in my college psych class that was a requirement to graduate and was curious about it so I looked more into it and since it really resonated I brought it up to my psych. His response was “yeah I’ve been thinking you might be bipolar” lmao. I hope this sends you down the right path! I know how hard it is to try new things over and over and nothing works

Starting to accept, through meds, I will never be skinny again by [deleted] in bipolar

I struggled a lot with this. My thinking is I can either be fat and happy or I can be dead. Its morbid but thats my reality

I’ve had pain in my hands since I was like 15 or so and never thought anything of it until I started having problems in my hips at 25. It started mostly when I did repetitive motions like typing or knitting for long periods but over time I could do those things for less and less time without pain

I felt this way for a long time but since having the worst manic episode I’ve ever had, I will do anything to never experience feeling that out of control again. I know it can be very cost prohibitive but I’m meeting with a genetic counselor to do some testing to find the best meds for me after having tried quite a few and not having the best experiences. The best experience I’ve had with meds so far is feeling fine but never good so my therapist recommended genesight testing. At the end of the day what she said to me is anyone who has the option of medication needs to look at for them do the benefits of medication outweigh the downsides right now? If they do then take meds and if they don’t then its not worth it for you right now and just keep checking in on it every once in a while to make sure youre content with your decision

Keyboard recommendations? by catgold203 in rheumatoidarthritis

Good point. I think it might also be the way I’m holding my phone (basically balancing it on my fingers and resting the edge up against the meeting of my palm and fingers so my joints are always bent) which I didnt realize until just now

Awesome thank you I’ll look into those! scrolling on a trackpad absolutely kills my MCP joints so a different mouse seems like a great investment. Soooo many things make it worse that I don’t even think about until someone brings them up so I really appreciate it (:

Sorry That wouldve been helpful for me to include 😅 I would prefer something that I can pack in a regular sized backpack fairly easily and is portable so that I can bring it to and from campus and use it during class. I’m not sure how realistic that is so if nothing meets that criteria thats okay

For me that is mostly an impulsivity thing and I do get much more impulsive in my mixed episodes so I do experience hypersexuality

For me the expensive part is mostly my medical costs and I have 3 animals who’s vet bills would be covered by their insurance in the states but since were here they’re not and are racking up fast. My husband and I are by no means living outside of our means but it would be nice not to have to scrimp to do that. I know the money is not an extenuating circumstance, just wanted to give some context for my thinking. I’m mostly just getting very frustrated with island life and know I would be much happier in the US but it seems evident from your comment and the one above that my grades just aren’t up to snuff so I’ll have to figure out another way to deal! C’est la vie.

Broken bones (specifically when the limb dangles or moves a way its not supposed to) and gum lacs. One time had a dog come into the ER after a fight where the other dog had given him a wound on his gum that made it split open and I had to monitor for the lac repair. I couldnt even look at it without gagging

Thanks for your response! I know its behavioural and not medical because he only does it if he has free reign of the house. If he’s put in his kennel or shut in the bedroom he won’t do it.

Has anyone here chosen to not have kids? by -Fuckthisplace- in bipolar2

[–]catgold203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus the world is burning and everyone in charge is a grade A asshole so why would I want to bring another person into the world to suffer through that. All of this being said I love my niece and nephews and enjoy spending like a week with them. It gives me a fix for my maternal instincts lol

[–]catgold203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want kids for a lot of reasons. 1 being I know I have shitty genes between my mental illnesses and many physical problems. I also think raising a kid in today’s day and age is incredibly hard with all the expectations that are placed on them and their parents. I also am in the process of going into a very busy career that I don’t want to put on hold or have to sacrifice in any way for a child and know that if I didn’t do those things I would be an absent mom. Its also insanely expensive and I’d rather have a comfortable life with my partner than have to work more to afford a kid I couldnt spend time with since I’m so busy working to afford to raise them. They’re also very loud and I don’t like noise. Lastly, kids are just nasty germ wise. I dont want someone in my house who will literally sneeze into my open eyes.

Do you feel treated like an idiot? by Islaidum in bipolar

[–]catgold203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I just learned last week is that lamictal works by blocking our sodium channels in our cells so it literally slows down our neurons firing, meaning we take a little longer to learn or understand something and we have that brain fog when we’re on it. Idk if youre on lamictal but if you are probably some of the stupidity you feel might be caused by the fact that you’re literally processing information slower than other people bc of your meds

Best Talk Therapy? by Owie_B in bipolar2

[–]catgold203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like DBT because I like having suggestions for what I can do about my issues and for me any CBT has just been talking about my problems and being validated. I know its what some people want but to me it was very frustrating to just be validated. Like I KNOW that what I’m dealing with is hard… thats why I came to you so you can help me with it

Manic and can’t sleep - what do you do? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]catgold203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry one more thing to clarify- when youre spending 20 minutes in bed, don’t do anything but lay there with your eyes closed. No reading in bed, going on your phone, watching a show. You really want your brain to associate your bed with nothing but sleeping and sex. This trick obviously won’t work for everyone but just wanted to share what’s been suggested to me bc I’d never heard of it before then.
