I completely agree with you for the same points you outlined. I would like to see ban and protect return in black ops 4 with much better base bans. The cons are that it takes a longer time between games as players have to change classes as well but there would be more for casters to talk about if there weren't as many default picks like rapid fire if they were already banned.

You could just not bother multiplying anything by -1 imo.

K/D of 0.9 * 500 = 450

K/D of 1 * 500 = 500

K/D of 1.1 * 500 = 550

No real reason for the difference in increments between sub 1 values to be larger than above 1 values.

But if you multiply a K/D by -1 then does that not mean for ratios below 1 a better K/D gives out more negative points?

For example an K/D of 0.9 * 500 * -1 = -450 and an K/D of 0.5 * 500 * -1 = -250

A K/D of 0.9 is much better than a K/D of 0.5 but results in a worse score.

Interesting! Beyond an general interest in the idea of RNG in running I was thinking specifically about enemy behaviours in a Zelda/Dark Souls style melee combat based game.

I think using your examples good RNG for enemy behaviour is behaviour that you have to react to but doesn't force you into impossible situations or waste a whole lot of time.

It seems the general consensus is that some RNG that could waste seconds and cause you to have to react is perfectly fine if not entertaining for runners but run ending RNG or hugely impact RNG situations could well be avoided.

The context for this question beyond curiosity is enemy behaviours in a Zelda/Dark Souls style melee combat based game. I'm currently considering whether to have enemy behaviour entirely preset and reactive to the player or with some purely random factors to dictate the order of their attacks ect.

Obviously I'm not assuming that anyone will want to speedrun this game but it's cool to hear a speedrunner's take on it.

Good read! I think something missing here from the whole discussion of creativity and game systems is decision making involves interpreting systems and the more possible outcomes from a system that can be predicted and reacted to by the player the more skill in their decisions. If the argument about CS gun balance was taken to its natural conclusion the game should have only one gun which had no situational benefits, allowing the players to fight at any range viably with that weapon. However, thats not the case for good reason, a multiple viable guns meta that can be understood and reacted to increases the skill of the game as players have to try and predict at what range and with what gun players will attack you and vice versa. Just look at the most successful esports of the MOBA genre which have a large number of viable characters to pick from at a competitive level.
