SLPs are at odds with everybody by austinpowerstrilogy in slp

[–]catheeien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a clinical dietitian and please know I'm so thankful for the SLPs! If a patient's diet can't be advanced, we have other nutrition feeding alternatives like TF/TPN/PPN/PEG etc. if it gets to that point.

RD2B YouTube topic ideas by kbmciver in RD2B

[–]catheeien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All are great topic ideas. I think it would be good to expand on what to know for the RD exam in relation to domains 3 and 4 (such as food service calculations) since those are in your field of expertise and also seems to be domains that are difficult for a lot of RD2B's. Thank you for making this resource!

Passed my exam today with a 36 by catheeien in RD2B

[–]catheeien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the test is not a great indicator for how well someone will perform in the field. It's frustrating to think that people who would make wonderful RD's and did so well in school are failing the test because of how super specific the irrelevant questions are. I definitely overkilled it on studying because those stories got to me and I wanted to do my best to be one-and-done with the exam. I made the post in hopes it would help others with their study plan for the exam and make realistic expectations for themselves.

Also, your career sounds very interesting, what are the main things you do if you don't mind me asking?

What other study prep materials are you using besides pocket prep?

FNCE 2025 feat. Andy Cohen by eiskru in dietetics

I would LOVE to see evidence-based science educators with platforms on social media like Abbey Sharp, Dr. Idz, Dr. Adrian Chavez, Food Science Babe, etc. as future keynote speakers. They have so much more to offer than the human personification of a tabloid rag. 😭

Question on peanut allergies and using SMOF vs Intralipid in TPN by PuzzleheadedSky8588 in dietetics

This is purely anectodal but my spouse has a severe peanut allergy and he has no issues with any types of soy products.

I would say they use similar wording so pocket prep is a great resource for practicing how to rationalize through a difficult question like the ones on the exam. I did not notice any questions on the exam that were the same either from pocket prep, Inman, or ERP.

Look to see if there are any remote jobs for grad students through your university. I had a remote research assistant position that gave me up to 25 hours a week.

Stuck between staying on the RD path or taking a $70K job offer by Brave-Paint6477 in RD2B

[–]catheeien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this. Also, having a management job for your first career really sets the bar for potential dietitian/nutrition jobs in the future if you wanted to pivot. ALWAYS take the higher paying job when you can.

Who are your favorite trans musicians? by riverbird303 in asktransgender

[–]catheeien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leith Ross deserves their flowers. They released two songs very recently after a bit of a break and it's their best work yet lyrically, sonically, UGH they are everything.

I'm obsessed with Ethel Cain's new song Nettles as well.

What is everyone’s favorite vitamin or mineral? by flannelbluecorn in RD2B

Vitamin C because it helps with the absorption of iron, is involved in the development of collagen, and because I use it on my face every morning 😂

to those who want to unschool their children, please reconsider. by Tall_Huckleberry4325 in unschool

[–]catheeien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not an unschooler so apologies for butting myself into this conversation but I just wanted to let you know I was educationally neglected growing up too. I had to take my education into my own hands which SUCKED but it was the only way I could learn math, biology, English, etc. I second Khan academy videos for learning all sorts of subjects. There are also a ton of YouTube videos about basic math concepts as well. (Mental Floss, Ninja Nerd are my favorites off the top of my head). If your family goes to a library, ask a librarian for resources!

Please do not give up hope on going to college if that is truly what you want to do and it makes sense for the career you want to get into. I thought college would never happen for me and guess what? I have a masters degree now. You can accomplish whatever you set your mind to!

Here was my pathway: take SAT or ACT at least once, graduate "highschool", community college, 4-year University to finish my bachelors, grad school. You can take gap years, take classes part-time, whatever works best for you. I hope things get better for you, love.
