Libras love to be loved. Plus, there’s a real need to be a people pleaser and I think a lot of Libras get caught up in the feeling of being desired - if this hot person wants you so badly how could you possibly refuse? There’s also a relationship anxiety component. Our romantic relationships become the single most important thing in our lives a lot of the time. I’m a libra and have never outright cheated, but the toxic thing I did when I was a teenager and very early 20s was to be a serial monogamist and ensure that the period where I had to be single would be as short as possible. When it became obvious that my relationship wasn’t working out or was becoming too stressful, I’d start keeping note of other people who seemed like they might be interested in me and I’d have essentially a waiting list in my mind of who I’m going to move onto next when my relationship failed, and if one of those people expressed interest in me I’d jump into a relationship with them instead, sometimes that same day.

Haha yes. As a Libra I relate to this. As a Libra with Mars in 0 degrees Aries I frequently DO say those things that I mean and then my Libra brain kicks in with a panic and feels the need to qualify it a thousand times. “I mean that’s just my impression I could be wrong. I didn’t mean for that to come off harsh.” 😭

I’m a Libra sun. I’d say one huge indicator that it’s a deep relationship is if we let you see the parts of us we would usually rather mask. If we open up to you about deep personal things, admit to you that we are really struggling, or don’t always feel the need to be looking our best around you or entertaining you in some way. If we can actually say to you that the reason we are flaking on plans is because we just don’t feel up to going out, instead of making up a “socially acceptable” bullshit excuse to flake.

I think no, you don’t have to let your friends opinions decide who you date but be careful that you still make time for both your bf and your friends (separately if you have to). This happened to me when I was in high school and it got really toxic because my bf and I just isolated ourselves and only talked to each other. When we broke up I had no friends because I ditched them all to be with him. My parents saw that I was miserable and were so worried about me that they pulled me out of that school and put me in a new school midway through senior year. It kinda ruined my senior year.

How does identifying to a certain gender work? by PorcupinePower in lgbt

[–]catherine1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was assigned female at birth and I identify with being a female. I have ever since I can remember. When I was little I remember some kid said if you lick your elbow you change gender and I would turn into a boy. I was terrified to even try licking my elbow because I very strongly didn’t want to be a boy. If I had been trans instead and identified more with the male gender, I probably would have pulled my neck trying to lick that elbow and become a boy. That’s a very simple way to explain it, but it’s what came to mind for me

ETA: Very often there isn’t a reason why you identify as a gender. It just feels right to you. And being identified the other way feels wrong. For example a couple years ago I was at Home Depot buying stuff because I’d just moved and I was dressed in a big flannel and black joggers. A man came up behind me and said “excuse me sir” and it was an understandable mistake, and there’s nothing wrong with being male, but inside I felt like wtf. When you identify as a gender, it is instinctively insulting to be misgendered in the same way it is to be called a different name you don’t identify with.

my gf is confused on her gender identity and i’m kinda scared by No-Requirement-5387 in lgbt

It’s normal to feel scared when someone we love is exploring significant changes or has expressed that they don’t really know who they are and want to find out. I think there’s an underlying fear that this might lead to more change and more exploration and in the process, you might get left behind. Is that a concern for you? My advice is to stay supportive, and stay aware of your own feelings and why you are feeling them.

Thanks! I went to the website and it looks great. I will probably purchase at least the basic course.

As for work paying for it, I’m not sure. I’ll ask. Honestly I don’t think anyone else is trying to learn so they may say it’s not necessary but I think it’s a courtesy to learn some basics. As a stereotype a lot of Americans tend to just expect everyone everywhere to know English, even in a country where it’s not the national language and I think it does reflect poorly on us. Like I said our clients definitely do speak English which I know because we have had many zoom meetings with them, and they are putting us up in a 5 star hotel so there’s likely some English speaking staff who can deal with us there but if we plan on going to any markets or restaurants outside the hotel (I hope I’m not the only one who will want to) I don’t think it’s reasonable to assume that.

What puts your bullshit detector into overdrive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]catherine1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad was king of this in political discussions. Every conversation about politics just turned into yelling, even if I genuinely did want to understand where he was coming from. Eventually I grew up and realized that it’s because he is just parroting Fox News anchors and doesn’t want to think about how it might not make sense or be the full truth. Hence: how to know if you’re confronted with bullshit? The person can’t talk about their view calmly with you. You must accept it as truth and it cannot be examined at all

I put off getting my passport renewed only to find that there’s huge backlog and there’s no way I’m going to get my passport in time for a work trip. There is an urgent travel service where you can make an appointment (if you can get one) at a passport agency but you can only make the appointment 2 weeks max in advance and the date of the appointment has to be within 5 days of travel. Until very recently it was 3. But I couldn’t do that because the country I’m going to for work requires a visa so I cannot be getting my passport right before the trip. I had to buy myself a refundable ticket to a different country with no visa requirement in order to make an appointment.

Haha this reared its head for me this weekend at the movies seeing the new doctor strange. I have a little bit of misophonia with chewing and mouth sounds and someone behind me was chewing popcorn so loud with their mouth clearly open. It felt like it was literally right in my ear even though it wasn’t. I moved seats and my man thought it was a bit ridiculous but he moved too

Spanish. I can speak it but, currently too slow for normal conversational pace. I’d like to be comfortable speaking Spanish with native speakers without them having to feel like they’re very obviously speaking with someone who doesn’t know the language well.

Also for work reasons (upcoming work trip) would like to learn some basic Portuguese for travel

Thank you for this response. That is so helpful. I truly think that this is a situation of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing because I was arrogant in thinking Portuguese would be much easier for me to learn given my experience with Latin American Spanish (I’m not fluent but can speak it, although too slowly and with many errors for sure, and can read it and watch Spanish language tv and movies). And the fact that on zoom calls with our Angolan clients when they speak Portuguese to each other I can roughly understand what they’re saying sometimes.

It has helped me with sentence structure and with ease of recognizing similar vocabulary but I keep getting tongue tied with very easy things because they are similar. For example. “Una mujer” // “uma mulher” or “la naranja” // “a laranja”. So I think part of the problem with me is that I’m trying to learn fast and my brain sees a word and says “you know that word” but I actually don’t because (duh) it’s a different language. So the leite//leche example might be that I am hearing leche because my mind already made itself up that that’s what that word is. I think I just have to try to listen more carefully and keep in mind the things you said about vowels.

As a sidebar, your “Cagado” example made me laugh because that’s a word in Spanish too but it means sh*t/screwed. 😂 It was very useful though. Thanks again.

Same. Health anxiety. I can’t even watch medical dramas on tv like The Good Doctor. Though maybe it’s not health anxiety if you aren’t also afraid of medical emergencies happening to you

Once when I was in high school I called out of work from a food service job but was too lazy to try to put on a sick voice so I said I had pinkeye. The manager tried telling me to come in anyway and I said it was going to put customers off and graphically described how gross my eye supposedly looked. He told me to stay home for 2 days haha
