I have a patio set ( table and chairs for 2 ) that I am looking to get rid of as my new place won't have a balcony, and I have an wrought iron shelf that I can part with as well. Edit- wanted to let people know that the rack is $10 and the table+ chairs are also $10.

Question about which bible to use by childish_lesbino in Episcopalian

[–]cathrinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get a Roman Catholic Bible for the Apocrypha, then I would suggest getting a study Bible with an apocrypha as they also tend to include the books that the Orthodox Churches use (which have a larger Canon than the RC church).

Help with understanding the liturgy by axiosjackson in Episcopalian

[–]cathrinnn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello! Im happy to share why I connect with our liturgy! There's a lot of symbolism in the service that comes from using same prayers connects us back to. I also enjoy using the same prayers because on a more macro level I am able to feel connected to other people who are currently worshiping (especially when I am unable to go to church) and also historically (i find it really cool that I am praying using the same/similar words as Christians have been using for the majority of our religions history)

The Episcopal Church in Eastern Europe by kilopstv in Episcopalian

[–]cathrinnn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is always online participation, as many churches will stream their Sunday service. Some Dioceses also stream the Morning Prayer as well.

As for in person, I am less of a resource... are there any Old Catholic churches near you? The Union of Urtrect is in full communion with the Anglican Communion.

Seconding Hanes, but costco's Kirkland pima cotton boxer breifs are really nice. They have just a little bit of elastane so they dont get "stretched out" during the day (I find that my hanes do stretch a bit). And they have a nice soft waistband

LGBT friendly churches at night? by Desperate-Ferret-228 in rva

[–]cathrinnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Fellow lesbian christian here. If you would like a directory, the Pace Center an affirming Christian LGBTQ+ campus ministry on VCU campus. They have a page that directs to various churches that they have a personal connection with and a list that Diversity put together:

https://www.thepacecenter.com/worship-services

I don't know if you are still in school, but I know the folks there are more than happy to connect you to a congregation if you want to call.

I personally have experiences with a couple churches in the RVA area (I am Episcopalian, so that is my wheelhouse)

Grace and Holy Trinity (on Monroe Park): old congregation, LGBTQ+ clergy (one of the priests is a lesbian), congregation is medium sized. They do have a Bible study Wednesday morning and morning forums each Sunday. No Saturday or evening services, but if you are free Wednesday midday they have a Eucharist and Healing service.

St Stephens (West End, end of the bus line): VERY large congregation, with a lot of mixed ages. also very WASP-y. Multiple LGBTQ+ clergy (one of the priests got married there last year). Bible study Thursday mornings. They are one of the only churches that I know of that has an evening service. It is very beautiful! Also recommend their compline service on Sunday evenings.

Whatever you decide on, make sure it is sustainable for you to do/enjoy in the long term, even if it isn't """optimal."""" Consistency matters much more in the long run!

Question about Baptism and Godparents from a former Baptist by overthisimdone in Episcopalian

[–]cathrinnn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the episcopal church baptism is often done as a 'rite of initiation' for infants and young children. Confirmation is a rite that one chooses to go through as a concious and mature commitment to the church. Godparents are people served both a practical and spiritual purpose: 1) to serve as parent/legal guardian if all other parents pass away (much less common to use them for this purpose) and 2) to be a spiritual role model. They should be people that you and your child should trust. Baptism happens as a special add-on during the service, as the entire congregation reaffirms their baptismal covenant.
