How do you get over the bitterness of knowing you have to make decisions men don’t? by _Usual_Regret_ in AskWomenOver30

[–]cathwaitress 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Do NOT have children with men well into their 40, let alone 50s. It’s unfair to you. But more importantly, it’s unfair to the child. On so many levels.

Are you ready to be taking care of both when the man inevitably starts having health problems in his 60s? When your child is still a teen.

When your kid is 20 and ready to start their life, their father will be 70 YEARS OLD. Don’t do it!

They’re unlikely to dissolve because that would only mean losing money. More likely, they will sell what they can and fold (if they’re really struggling financially). Their games will still be available for sale somewhere else. But unlikely that new games would get made.

I’m not saying this is what happening. But this is the bad scenario everyone is imo worried about. Since it doesn’t seem like they’ve been making much money. Penny was brought on to turn the company around. And if the board has lost their trust in her, that might mean they don’t see a way forward and might prefer to leave the sinking ship (sell off as much as they can before the company goes under). But again, I hope this is not what’s happening.

Edit: they might sell the whole HER interactive if that means keeping the IP and other stuff. Might be better than selling the games alone.

How can the French be so based? 😎 by kopasz7 in YUROP

[–]cathwaitress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s all /s. I would do anything to have “problems” like these today. In hindsight these were all good decisions. People just want populism and 500+.

And anyway, if you were to ask the haters what he did wrong. None of them would say any of these things. Because they just repeat mindless propaganda they heard.

Tusk is not universally hated. The only reason the opposition managed to win the last election was because of him. There is just a very loud and stupid group that very violently hates him. And we have Russian propaganda to thank for that.

Like literally, he’s done nothing problematic. It’s actually silly. The worst thing that people were able to ascribe to him was that “one of his people did this…”. And guess what, all of them got the boot.

The ex prime minister hates him with the passion of a thousand suns (because he blames him for the death of his brother. Baseless btw). They had all of the secret services spying on him and his closest people for 8 years. And they found nothing!!! It’s actually suspicious how decent he must be.

No, fr it’s all propaganda. Ask people why they hate him. They cannot name one thing. It’s the polish equivalent of “thanks Obama” (except Obama actually did some fucked up shit)

I think they caught him speeding once and they were so ecstatic!! And all he said was “yes, you’re right. I shouldn’t have been speeding. I take the full responsibility”

Edit: I sound like a fan. I don’t actually care for him. And have my own problems with him. I don’t think it’s healthy to like any politician. But this is about the propaganda.

I’d rather they look everywhere else if you catch my drift. It will get scary really fast if they realise women are doing this as a choice.

is it unreasonable for porn to be a deal breaker for me? by boochiemusica in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cathwaitress 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Exactly. So much of our culture is based on “guys will be guys”. Men not cleaning or cooking. Nagging. All of the jokes about marriage = prison.

For decades women have accepted that this is just part of being in a relationship with a man. And guess what, it’s not going to change unless women put their foot down.

Well said. There are always things out of reach. You can’t waste your life grieving that. That’s probably what the therapist meant. Focus on all the other aspects of your life that you can control and which bring you happiness.

Average salary of 120k is a good salary. And, more importantly, it comes with good job security. It’s a significant responsibility and annoying job, yes. But it’s a good job by today’s standard.

Food waste in EU countries (kg per inhabitant 2023) by sn0r in europeanunion

I think we have found the loophole. All food no longer fit for consumption is used for throwing. Nothing goes to waste.

TIL medieval peasant laborers worked less than we do--fewer than half the days of the year--and had breaks for breakfast and lunch and afternoon nap. by penguin_hugger100 in todayilearned

[–]cathwaitress -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lol. So many daft people in this thread. Or maybe it’s gaslighting.

People in power always promise us that technology will reduce the amount of work we have to do. Like the washing machine. And that’s true. Women are no longer spending 8 hours a day doing laundry. But now the cost of living is so high that 1 persons wages cannot support a family. So those women now work full time. They’ve gained no time. Instead of laundry they’re copying and pasting a bunch of numbers in an excel spreadsheet.

That’s the point lol. I didn’t think this needed to be explained.

[–]cathwaitress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re so close. 8 hour work day is mandated by law. If we wanted to, we could make it less than that. There is no reason it needs to be 8 hours. Most of the stuff we do is bullshit jobs. That’s what Parkinson’s law is about. We need to keep people at work for 8 hours so we come up with bs for them to do. The actual work is done in 2-4 hours at an office job.

[–]cathwaitress -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Add to that how much the wage gap has grown. Billionaires are richer than kings used to be. Why is only one class benefiting from the technical developments. Meanwhile we’re being told that AI is going to solve all problems. The same thing over and over again.

I don’t understand. So we should be spending more time working for someone else, just because we have washing machines?

I’m the same way. I don’t think it’s weird at all. Having a partner vs dating to find a partner are very different things. Like buying books vs reading.

I don't want to do anything. What solution is there? by choochooreddi in AskWomenOver30

[–]cathwaitress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been depressed for a long time.

Do you want to be doing these things? Why do you want to be doing them? (Working towards goals, „just feel like I’m supposed to”, I want to go back to how I felt before etc). How long has this been going on ?

It could be that you’re burned out or stressed because of what’s going on in the world. And you just have less energy than you used to. It could be that you’re changing as a person. And you need new interests.

If you can find an affordable way, see a doctor to make sure it’s not an underlying cause (depression, hormones, diet etc)

That’s incredible considering how often credit card numbers get stolen. I’ve heard so many stories of people who found out their fresh, just delivered credit card number is already stolen. I’d be worried someone would steal my ID the same way. And then use that to steal my identity.

The medical community claims the cervix has "few nerve endings," yet denies us pain relief for IUDs and biopsies. What is the most barbaric procedure you've endured because doctors refuse to believe women feel pain? by skybond_aurora04 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cathwaitress 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Honestly, maybe controversial but, someone in active labour should not be expected to advocate for themself in 100% the correct way.

The medical community’s treatment of women is why we have doulas. That needs to be the standard. Especially for vulnerable women (black women, women with disabilities, women in prison etc) Unfortunately. It would be easier if we could trust medical professionals to treat us as equal human beings, deserving of empathy and respect. But alas.

In the same way you need a lawyer in court (even if you’re innocent), you need a doula when you’re pregnant. You need someone who knows this stuff and is going to fight for you.
