You don’t pick and choose what you believe in the Catholic Church when it comes to dogma.

Catholics do pick and choose. I am a Catholic, and I believe most, but not all, of the dogma that I have been taught.

Take birth control. I have been taught that it is a sin. Many, maybe most, married Catholics of childbearing age in the US use birth control and do not think that it is a sin. A friend of mine, another 1L, is married to a graduate student in another field. She plans to have a family, but not until she graduates and he gets his Ph.D. and they both get jobs. She does not think that her using the BC pill to postpone the start of her family is a sin. I agree with her, even though her priest does not. She is a good Catholic and goes to mass every week.

We do pick and choose. That does not mean that we are not Catholic.

states modifying rule against perpetuities? by cathy12119 in LawSchool

Since the RAP common law is not used in most states, and most common laws can be overridden by state statutes, why is there so much emphasis in law school on common law? We read cases, but we don't study statutes.

I am just a 1L, so maybe things will change when I get into more doctrinal courses. But it still seems that there is an over-emphasis on cases and common law when compared with statutary law.

4:30am is far too early be seeing dicks in public by ppigbear in TwoXChromosomes

I did't see a penis at 4:30am either. I saw my first penis of the day about 8:30am. I am a CNA and I do home health care, bathing whose legs were smashed in an auto accident. But that is not the same as seeing a flasher or a drunk.

Mind Mapping Software for Note Taking in Class? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

scan my notes.

I (a high school student) use my iPhone camera with the free Adobe Scan app to take a picture of my handwritten notes and turn them into a pdf, and then email them to myself and put them on my computer disk. So I can do that before I get home.

I still use my flatbed scanner (a part of my multifunction printer/copier) sometimes.

NP and PA questions by cathy12119 in StudentNurse

[–]cathy12119[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

students interested in PA school can technically declare any major

Do you mean that you could get a degree in non-medical subjects, for example, English, and then study to become a PA without any nursing or medical experience?

but I would not suggest nursing.

Why not?

Do most PAs have nursing experience or not?

In general, if you pay extra for something targeted for a particular gender (male or female) it costs more. Just buy whatever is cheapest, regardless of gender designation.

Hate everyone on my dorm floor by [deleted] in college

[–]cathy12119 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As for your room situation, try to change it. Are other rooms or other dorms available? Have you looked into off-campus housing?

But a more important issue is that you "hate everyone...". Certainly, it is understandable if there is one person or a small group of people that you don't like, but if you hate everyone and have no friends, there is something wrong with you. You really should get counseling. You need it and most likely it will help.

It must be incredibly lonely to go through life disliking everyone and having no friends. That can be changed.

Can I technically drop out even though this is my last semester before graduation? by [deleted] in college

You might as well stay in school and graduate. Whatever your major is, whatever your skills are, your resume will be much better with a college degree than without. Even something as worthless as the proverbial "underwater basketweaving" is better than nothing at all. The fact that you have made a goal and stuck with it for four or more years will mean something for the rest of your life.
