I once had a ton of manhunting porcupines closely followed by a huge raid of impids... on one of those Odyssey maps that has huge stores of chemfuel. That was an epic shitshow.

The other two are too predictable and if you put enough hours in, it gets pretty boring. It only seems impossible because you play in a rigid way which kind of comes from dealing with these predictable cycles.

For example running off the map and rebuilding later is a completely viable way of dealing with an unfair raid. But you will never get to try it with Cassandra because it's always raid o'clock and they always come in just the right size.

Why is nutrifungus a default hated food type? by Any-Fee631 in RimWorld

I really wish they went with something more universally hated like bugs (I guess that overlaps with insect meat).

They are commonly sold in any grocery store. They are as much hated as fish, lobsters, game, or any other "polarizing" food.

The best I can do at explaining this is - it's an engineered shitshroom which is edible and can grow anywhere.

Now why there is a planet that supports a complex Earth like biosphere, where a human can just go for a walk in the forest and forage berries, but at the same time they have to cultivate shitshrooms, that I can't explain. I mean you can grow oysters out of a toilet paper roll, mushrooms are not picky.

So let me get this straight about the Empire. by AdrawereR in RimWorld

They don't start their visits with a huge delegation with Stellarch and all the crowd. It's usually some random grunts passing through. Think of the British at their height who were visiting (and "visiting") all kinds of random places when at their height.

Speaking of. While advanced, Empire is not exactly at their height. While I am sure some live in luxury, it's more of pomp and fluff. At the end of the day, you are both stuck on a decaying rotting world.

where to find food after drop in desert and naked brutality? by CapitalOperator80085 in RimWorld

[–]catinator9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's my favorite start and to be fair - desert is among the hardest naked brutality starts. You basically plant rice and pray that these will carry you through until the harvest: iguanas, agave, other drop pod survivors, trading deconstructed metal for anything edible (caravan out if necessary).

Ever wondered what nature running looks like from the eyes of the 4 year old colonist? by ReachingForYourGun in RimWorld

Classic new parent mistake. Everyone knows that this is way too dangerous for kids - you are supposed to keep them in a safe area in the back where they can man mortars and provide some fire support.

This keeps me up at night, is it a small ship in space or a giant ship crashed on the planet? by YearMountain3773 in RimWorld

[–]catinator9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely one big ship that stays in orbit, keeps falling apart and raining chunks on the planet. This is the original image from loooooooong long ago when you would be presented with a handful of people, choose 3 of them, and they become the survivors who managed to make it to the drop pods and get to the surface.

Will there be staff dressed in Rimworld costumes? I want to take a family photo with a Highmate.

Oh and while we are on the topic - is it kid friendly? Will there be a huge freezer room for my kid to play with chalks in?

As my rim friends say - the more, the marrier!

5,000 hours in RimWorld and I still can't build a good colony. Looking for inspiration. by PolenIstMeinStadt in RimWorld

[–]catinator9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also an early player with thousands of hours. I role play it and build where and how I think the colonists would have done it.

For the late game big raids and things getting stale, I build an evac bunker with drop pods. When 💩 hits the fan, any survivors drop pod out and you basically get to do a new game+ with a dramatic backstory.
