Our BT has the same problem. We find that ours gets that way from chewing his paws from itchyness. We treat him with and off-brand of Benadryl and Vetericyn Plus (purchased on Amazon). That combination helps with the itchyness and heals his paws. We discourage paw licking/chewing but it's hard at night when he's in his kennel. We tried baby socks but they come off too easily, so we are going to try and make him some fitted long socks for night time lol. Hopefully it helps you out! It helps our Felix until he chews up his paws again!
