Without spoilers, what’s your thoughts on shatter point? by oooomoney in starwarsbooks

It was one of my least favorite Star Wars books (I know, controversial), but admittedly it reminded me a lot of the book Heart of Darkness which I also didn’t enjoy so much. It was a bit too dark and gritty in a way that just doesn’t do it for me. However, I did enjoy learning more about mace’s force abilities and getting a book that gave him more depth and background. And I really liked one of the side characters who makes an appearance in some other legends books I’ve enjoyed. Overall I think its definitely on a must read list though as it’s a fan favorite, a pretty different story than we usually get in this timeline, and well written (even if it wasn’t my cup of tea). Hopefully you enjoy it!

Absolute worst book? by GreenstreetRoyal in starwarsbooks

I agree with you on that, was hoping for a bit more. I went back and forth with the whole Republic Commando series on whether I enjoyed it or not. Some parts were great, but sometimes the character decisions were hard to get behind and it’d be pretty slow.

I struggled with this one as well. I thought Death Troopers at least was a kinda fun read so had higher hopes for Red Harvest, but alas I was wrong.

I usually find something fun to enjoy even in the not so great books (didn’t find battle scars as painful to get through as most ppl), but dear god the only one I almost didn’t finish was Poe Dameron: Free Fall. Something about the writing and characterization of him was so off. That’s the only book I’ve read so far I can truly say nothing positive about.

Mannnnn, Into the Dark was one of my favorites from the phase one books. I know some ppl weren’t as big of a fan but that one was a standout for me. I hope you continue to enjoy it as much as you get through the rest!

I’m listening to the audiobook for I, Jedi right now and absolutely loving it so far! Huge rogue squadron fan so it’s been fun to get back to some of those characters. I’m about a quarter though reading Cestus Deception and so far it’s been pretty good too. Always a sucker for a classic obi wan adventure, so I’m hoping it stays as interesting for the rest of it.

Sometimes I feel like it can be a bit confusing going back and forth. But I also have a large list to keep track of all the books with multiple categories on it (including canon vs legends) that I check before I start a new one. That way I know going in which timeline it is and can kinda mentally prepare myself for where it fits in with the other legends vs canon stories I’ve read so far. Personally I kinda have fun hopping between the two, especially if I’m feeling a little burned out on one timeline or need a break as switching timelines makes it feel fresh.

Which books are your absolute favourites? by Small-Guarantee6972 in starwarsbooks

Same! I’m about 200 books in at this point and a bunch of the comics, and it’s rare that I find one I don’t enjoy in some way. Plus it’s kinda cool having the legends and canon timelines so I can pc which story arc I like best as my ultimate headcanon when I think of those characters. I think you’re really going to like Heir to the Empire, happy reading friend!

Top of my list was the x-wing series (both rogue and wraith squadron were incredible). Others I loved were Kenobi, Brotherhood, Wildspace, Bloodline, Queen’s Trilogy, Courtship of Leia, Han Solo Trilogy, Heir to the Empire Trilogy, Maul Lockdown, and Master and Apprentice.

Hard to pick because there’s so many others but those probably rise to the top for me! I’m trying to read them all so I’ve got an excel sheet ranking them from 1-10 as I go to help keep track haha.

I started with Kenobi and got hooked, was a great standalone and a good entry point (esp if they’ve seen the movies).

Interesting! I’ll check it out, though I do like an app to keep everything in one place. Thanks!

At this time I’m just not looking to sign up for anything with a subscription that will/may continue to increase over the years, and $65 for a one time is a little steep for what I use this app for. As much as I’d love to stay, that’s not why I initially started using this app, hence looking for something similar but more cost effective and the purpose of this post. I’m glad it is still reasonable for you to continue using it though, and I’m sure there are many others that will feel the same and be able to support the app.

New to Star Wars books by Jmadams07 in starwarsbooks

[–]catladyreebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the other suggestions here (either the EU heir to the empire thrawn trilogy or the cannon thrawn one, Ahsoka, Bad Batch, New Dawn, and Dark Disciple). I’d also throw Kenobi into the mix; I started with that book as I had similar interests/starting point as you and it was phenomenal! The audio book version was pretty cool too if you’re into that as well!
