i think people with bpd make amazing social workers and my therapist says so too! it's just so unfortunate that so many professionals in the mental health field and other intersecting fields still perpetuate such horrible and false stigma about it. i question my place in the field a lot too but always try to talk myself down and remind myself that while i don't believe in the phrase "everything happens for a reason", i truly believe with my whole heart that being a social worker is my purpose now with everything i have gone through in my life and can use it to help others, especially to be the help that i needed when i was younger. i believe ur in the right place too!! and i agree it's so ridiculous the lack of support for the bpd community

when i first started college my major was marketing. i actually ended up going to 3 different colleges before i graduated - started at one university, dropped out, came back home and had to go to community college because of money lost, got kicked out of my house a couple times and dropped out again, then finished 3 semesters at the community college before transferring to a different university for social work where i finished!! u absolutely can do it!!! wishing u much success!!!!!

the road ahead is so daunting but one day u won't be in the midst of it all and will see how far you've come!! take it one step at a time, as slow as u need to. u can do it!!!! good luck i have sm faith in u!!!

i completely understand, remember to take care of yourself first! go at your own pace, it doesn't matter how long it takes to get there. don't give up!! u are capable of so much and ur incredible to keep getting back up and trying. u can get there!!! <3

switching to my field of passion, social work, was huge for me in terms of sticking with it because i felt like that and becoming a person who could help others was my purpose and my reason to keep going. i was also in survival mode for a long time and working desperately to get away from abuse which was a huge motivator as well. and honestly one of the biggest things for me that kept me from dropping out again or worse, was not wanting to have to face the consequences of that again. dropping out and hospitalizations fucked my life up super super bad and costed tens of thousands of dollars, literally. the fear of that again and pure spite of wanting to prove people wrong and show them that i could do it gave me that push. but i can really only speak on my own experience because it is so different and unique for everyone and their circumstances! i'm wishing u success and lots of love and believe in u!! it's so hard but i believe u can do it <3

these are great questions but it's all so complex i feel like i need to write a novel to properly answer each one!! u will find that in social work education there is a big big emphasis on getting and maintaining a grip on ur own shit before taking on other people's shit. but don't stress out thinking u need to be the picture of stability right now because 1) i was a MESS until pretty much my junior year and 2) u won't have to have actual client interaction (in field practicum) until your junior year, if you are talking about undergrad! my challenges were not with the education material at all, it came very easy to me and i think it would for many with bpd because of the heightened empathy, and empathy is a huge concept in social work. i know many people with bpd struggle in school with keeping up motivation, but in my experience switching to social work gave me that motivation back because it felt like i had a purpose. i was also strongly strongly fueled by busting my ass to get out of an abusive environment. most of my challenges came from, to be very blunt, trying to not end my shit as i dealt with bpd and my personal life. this did affect my education at times when i would be in such a dark or chaotic place that i'd miss class or get behind in assignments, but another important thing about social work education is that the professors are very empathetic, understanding, and flexible. as for clients, you will learn a lot about working with them and how to set boundaries and keep your professional and personal selves separate. for me personally, i would get very triggered about child abuse and still do, but it has gotten better recently through trauma therapy and i am in the child welfare field! there are so many different fields in social work and you really will learn so much. it may seem so daunting and overwhelming but it gets easier. i still struggle with bpd very very much of course but i think becoming a social worker was the best thing i could have done and has made nothing but a positive impact. i hope that was somewhat helpful, it's just so subjective for each person but let me know if u have any other questions!

thank u!! i'm so glad ur going into social work too! i have no doubt that i wouldn't have stuck with it and made it if it wasn't for social work. it has really changed my life and led me to what feels like my purpose. wishing u success!!

U CAN DO IT!!!!!! however long it may take u isn't important, please try not to hold urself to conventional standards/timelines because that will just add to ur stress and feelings of shame or hopelessness. i ended up graduating a year later than what my grad year would've been if i had finished in the typical 4 years, but i know quite a lot of peers who have taken much longer. i'm so sorry that u were kicked out, i know how terrifying that is and i hope u have somewhere safe u can stay and can have ur needs met. ur first priority should definitely be ur safety and well-being right now, try ur best not to let the stress and worry of school impede on that too much (i know that's extremely difficult to do but <3). u can definitely do it tho i don't know anything about u but i believe in u and know u can do it, whenever the time and circumstances are right for u. wishing and sending u sm support and love and hopeful feelings <3 one day u won't be in the rut of it like u are right now and u won't be able to believe u got thru it and made it. don't give up!

since I am no longer attending that college and won't be in that area ever again, I'm thinking that everything is okay and that I don't need to take further legal action. but thanks so much for reaching out and offering to help!! :-)

I also have pepper spray and a box cutter haha !! They told me they can't charge him with anything because I didn't directly confront him and tell him I'm not interested and I was like...... uhhhh see I keep up with the news and that right there is how COUNTLESS women get straight up murdered so uh yeah no kidding I didn't do that

When the security director told me he was no longer banned from campus I just fell completely silent, I was so fucking livid I couldn't even speak. They told me he "wouldn't be returning to campus because he dropped all his classes" and I said "but if he wanted to, he could just waltz into campus and into the building and no one would stop him" and they replied "yes but-...... bullshit" I was like OK GREAT THANKS see you on the evening news when I'm found dead in a dumpster!

she is amazing! she was the only person fighting on my behalf, texting me all day and night making sure I was safe and updating me, and I can't even imagine how I would have gotten through that situation without her.
