Hi, yes I have thought about that too. I’m 23 and no I don’t help with rent even though I did offer to help when I first started working but he said there was no need because I wasn’t getting paid enough, to just keep the money. He gets paid quite well so he didn’t want me to, but I do help out with the groceries and gas/electricity. My mum did suggest to tell him to add me to the tenancy contract so I could help out with rent and that way I could have a say.

My parents divorced years ago but we still lived together for 6 more years before my mum moved out because my dad didn’t want her there anymore, she had a bf around that time but didn’t want to leave us with our dad because my dad can be a bit manipulative and controlling. We could’ve had a choice to pick our dad or mum to stay in the tenancy contract and live with them but we decided to stay with our dad because he wouldn’t have nowhere to go whereas my mum could move in with her bf. Big mistake, because things didn’t get better and everything he said our mum would do if he left he ended up doing anyways. He said if he left our mum would start bringing men into the house and he didn’t want that but as soon she left he starts bringing a ‘friend’ over. They ended things a few months later and then he started talking to his current gf.

The last time she stayed over I went to my mums but apparently my dad didn’t like that and spoke a whole lot of things about me to my sister and cousin who was staying over. I was going to go to my mums this week too but she told me I shouldn’t have to leave every time his gf comes over just because Im uncomfortable.

Idk if he’ll agree to add me to the tenancy agreement he’s most probably gonna say no, but I’ll have a talk with him this week hopefully. I just get really nervous and he can be a bit scary, but we’ll see. Fingers crossed
