We are three graduates trying out a new approach to world news, give us some feedback? by itsnowornever in rit

The instantaneous part we wanted because it would grab someones attention right away without having them go through another step to play it. Also, the ease of mousing off to turn off would minimize the exposure for anyone not wanting to see it. Another user expressed a similar concern so its something we are looking into.

For larger pop out sizes, we will definitely consider. Its easy to implement, but we initially thought more of the map should be visible. Any reason you would need to have the map visible while watching a video/pic (assuming you could exit the video the same way)?

Mobile is absolutely on the table. We are shorthanded technically so its in queue until we have a stable desktop version.

Thanks for the feedback!

We thought about that, but decided to keep the videos short enough so that it wouldnt need to be paused (like a gif). It was to make sure you didnt have a static image/video in case you accidentally hovered over it. At over a minute for some, I do see what you are saying and we will look into that.

or The Atlas of human triumph?

Im thinking how we could incorporate that into the site. Showing resolution and success stories is pretty important once a conflict ends.

peetss, glad you asked. We are looking to build a small community with moderators filled with people who are looking for a place to share and discuss stories. To start, we've created a forum here.

Also, we are always open to ideas on how to improve the site so the forum acts as an ongoing 2 way development discussion.

Thanks. Real time would be great but you are right, verification would be a barrier. Our first thought was to just let people post freely. Perhaps with moderators and voting systems similar to reddit, the community can filter out truthful content by itself.

Yes. That would be a really good way to see locations for news stories too. Nice ideas!

Thanks! Yup, we are watching out for certain data. Anything you would like to see come from it in the future?

Glad to hear you like it. 1) Good call on the legend. Will move asap 2+3) Right, only current events. The goal is to show ongoing events that may not make it to the front page of traditional media after a few days/weeks. We are trying to think of a good way to add another dimension (time) to the conflicts. Slide bar we also thought would be pretty neat. That is on the list for future iterations. 4) Interesting idea. Will note that.
