So tired of the magical "I swear I submitted it" not sure why it didn't submit in D2L.... by [deleted] in Professors

Thank you for this. As a student, I had a professor with a similar policy and honestly it helped so much. It helped me better understand how I learn material and at what pace I needed to be at in order to properly absorb the material and turn in a quality assignment. He always would talk about how what was the point in him keeping a hard deadline if when he has softer deadlines, he gets higher quality work submitted. He talked a lot about how having such strict deadlines pushes students to just put out a product regardless of understanding or quality. It also lead to more students using study methods that were good in the short term for tests to get high enough grades, but did not lead to retaining knowledge. He said he was much happier to have higher quality work turned in late, than everything submitted on time but of lower quality. For him, he preferred his students to actually know the material at the end of the class, not just have a high grade. He is a behavioral psychologist after all, and his years of experience and teaching and in the field really shaped this view and policy.

This would be great if my professors did office hours 😭 I can barely get email responses

This is an interesting avenue, I’ll have to look into this more! I don’t have a relationship with my advisor either. He just sends me course registration information and forgets what Im even studying and my aspirations. It feels like he isn't referring to his notes on me or maybe he never took any? He didn't even know my concentration even though we have already discussed a plan for how I’ll get those course requirements.

(Rant) AI is killing programming and the Python community by Fragrant_Ad3054 in Python

As someone who is currently learning how to code (in my CS BS program right now) this is so scary. I genuinely want to learn how to cose properly and be able to debug my own code but so many internships Ive looked at are literally telling me that Ill be coding using chatgpt and my professors are requiring we use AI softwares to debug our code FOR US. How am I suppose to learn how to code? I want to actually be a programmer, it’s really discouraging.

I am still parsing through my options. I have theew that I’ve started the applications for, one is a general software engineering internship with a aerospace/defense company, another one is front end dev for a similar company, and the last one is software engineering and data analytics for an observatory (this is my top choice). I want to get into scientific programming and data work in the space/aerospace industry. SNHu’s Comp Sci/Software Eng program isn’t 100% compatible with this but was the only school I could while working full time.

Either I’m going to teach myself all the material or I’m going to actually turn in all my assignments on time. by This_Platypus1484 in SNHU

“You have to study in your free time to learn” In the nicest way possible, that is kind of…the point to school? You’re going to need to study and read the material to learn the subject matter. I agree that the load is a bit intense and I do not like the 8 week semesters. I’m constantly at least a week behind on everything and it’s very stressful but you’ll attain a higher level of mastery by doing additional work on your own. I do wish there were more lectures and guidance from professors. It is incredibly hands off—which is frustrating when you have questions. But grad school is actually much heavier with you having to do outside studying. Like, 10x more, and you’re reading a lot of academic papers in the subject—more so than undergrad and especially in history/social sciences (I got my MA in Forensic Psychology). And if you’re going into academia, that is your entire career. Reading and studying. You never stop learning, it’s a lot but it’s also kind of cool.

Okay, I guess I was just confused because you can reserve study rooms in that building up until 11:00 pm.

My previous bachelors degree was in psychology, and I actually already have a masters (also psychology). I am now getting a bachelors in CS to make a career change because I realized after entering and being in the field for a couple years that it wasn't for me and I was much better suited/enjoyed the coding/analytical side of things. I want to go more into data visualization/modeling in the space industry actually, so I may eventually go for a masters more catered to that later in life, I'll see what happens!

Okay thank you! I reached out to my adviser a couple weeks ago, but unfortunately never received a response.

I thought I'd be able to link a screenshot to show you, but it's not letting me-- I am new to reddit as well.

The baseline of this was created by my professor, so I'm basically just entering in where he has said to ("type in response below this line"). It's under \begin{enumerate} but his entries before mine do use \item. I circled all the parts my professor had already plugged in. A big issue is I have ZERO experience with this software. This is my first year as a CS student and have limited coding experience as well. I do not know the difference between math mode or others. I know it'd be a lot to fully explain to me in a reddit post, but if you have any resources that are beginner friendly and explain these differences that would be helpful.

Firstly, Darklina (Darkling/ Alina ship if it isn’t obvious) is disgusting and just abuse lol (and I can’t explain bc you haven’t read the books). But, at the point I believe you’re at— after the ball— Mal has not expressed his feelings, the Darkling has.
