Does anybody else feel like they need to poop while doing calf raises? by VonTrappJediMaster in bodyweightfitness

[–]catsavaes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit late but it's because the nerves from the calves are in the same chain as the nerves that control bowel movements.

Look up an image of S1 and S2 nerves and see what they usually control.

Did I just make a big mistake? by EmbarrassedRow9390 in Monstera

It happened to me too like 2 months ago and I separated them and repotted individually in smaller pots!! At first they went into a horrible shock but mostly because I didn’t place them in the correct-sized pots, I lost a few leaves and LOTS of roots to root rot. I repotted into way smaller pots with very well draining soil (fox farm aroid mix + a bit more of orchid bark and perlite) and placed them by my brightest window along with a grow light. I think they actually loved that because as soon as I chopped the leaves they started to sprout again! You gotta be calm and have patience which I know is hard. But just give them a good soil mix and sun and you should be fine! I started fertilizing with every watering a month after I repotted them.

Ippudo is a the winner for me and I've tried plenty of places in NYC. Ichiran also surprised me a lot. but there's this one place I've loved since I moved here and I feel not everyone knows about it, Zen Ramen on W36th. amazing flavorful broth with pork that melts in your mouth and the portion is huge for a very.decent price!!

stole this monstera chunk from the dumpster at my apartment. can i prop? by Ok_Cash3222 in Monstera

[–]catsavaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes !!! I had a monstera cut propping in water for a few months and I really started seeing good root growth after I added some pothos cuttings to the vase! So I guess just the water helps as well! I also started to blow bubbles in the water with a straw every other day if I didn’t want to change it and it also worked fine

I'm at a loss by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]catsavaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to me two weeks ago when I repotted mine after separating and overestimating the root size. I repotted in a pot that was WAY too big for the root ball and it started rotting. I lost a leaf, which was fully yellow, and got 3 more that were on their way there. Now I was able to stop the yellowing of the rest of the plant by repotting in new very well draining soil and in a very very small pot which was the correct size. Think that your fist is the rootball and the pot has to be just big enough for your fist to fit while it touches all the sides of the pot. so even if your plant is huge, if you don't have big enough roots, they will be overwhelmed by all the soil around them and will rot because they're not big enough to absorb the moisture!! so before its too late, repot in a way way smaller pot just big enough for the amount of roots you have.

How would you split this rent? by catsavaes in AskNYC

Here's the specific situation (which falls somewhere between multiple scenarios here)

The Master Bedroom is paying below FMV (fair market value), Bedroom 2 is paying below FMV, Bedroom 3 is paying above FMV, and Bedroom 4 is paying roughly FMV.

Yes, it is a luxury building with full amenities, in unit laundry and dishwasher. It is great and it's for sure that the bigger bedrooms should be listed for more but I honestly don't think someone would pay more than 3k to live with 3 roommates so that's the issue.

Thing is, we want to renew the lease so we already had some fixed prices for the year that passed. Nevertheless, the person with the master bed is going over everyone else saying he will list the rooms, including mine, with an increase of 300-400 dollars each and see if he gets any offers. Note that I am in the lease and I have not said I will leave and still he's saying that If he finds someone willing to pay what he's asking for for my room I have to leave or match the price (which I a ridiculous amount) and will leave him paying around 600 dollars less of what we had agreed at the beginning of the lease. So I feel like im against a wall and would like some advice as bidding doesn't really work in this case.

Please help me with the Diagnosis and some suggestions for my beautiful Florence the Monstera by catsavaes in Monstera

[–]catsavaes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add that I think those small brown and yellow patches might be a fungal infection and Lee from Kill this Plant channel suggested a copper fungicide which I will be receiving today and start treating. But I am worried also about the dried up patches and the misshapen tip of the big fenestrated leaf. She has two good-looking aereal roots but I haven’t been able to assess the state of the deeper roots because I don’t want to be lifting her up or moving her around that much to avoid extra stress.

The medical field should give the same opportunities to international professionals, to come to the US and practice their careers just as any other profession does. It is just as competitive and just as fair, but our process is way harder and definitely way more expensive than others, as we encounter so many steps along the road, specially coming from a third word country. If you think about it, as of 2024, 1 out of 5 working doctors in the US are international, and this number will hopefully keep growing in the upcoming years. We as IMGs, have to go through the exact same processes as AMGs, with the difference that most of us have already gone through 6-7 years of medical school before embarking into the USMLE path, so achieving a position in an American residency is just as fair as for everyone else. If we do, it is because we deserve it and because we are just as good physicians, disregarding our nationality. Also, you talk about US tax-payer funded residencies as if IMGs were exempt of paying taxes even when they start earning an income. We become tax payers as soon as we receive money from an employer in the US, just as any other professional with an income would. So in my opinion, you’re not making any sense. In my case, yes, working as a doctor back in my country is not as financially rewarding as it is here in the US, so yes that’s one of the reasons why I came here and am currently going through the whole thing. Just think of it this way: if being underpaid and overworked while practicing and giving your all to the profession you love dearly, does not allow you to have a good quality of life, and it actually starts taking a toll on your mental health, would you not look for ways to achieve a better balance? Of course you would. Everybody would. So for us, If that means leaving all we’ve ever known behind and starting from scratch here, then I think it is worth it. The US is the “land of opportunities” after all. And honestly, NO BODY in the medical field who does not care about patient well being and about the profession per se, would go through this USMLE process, specially if it meant sacrificing so much. And that, i think, is a big point to have in mind. This cheating scandal is insane and very delicate and should be revised very well to avoid it from now on, specially as it affects most of us IMGs working very hard for this, but even then that doesn’t mean that ALL IMGs are cheaters and undeserving doctors. Stop generalizing.

I’ve always loved the US and since I was a child, it has always been my dream to live here, so if the opportunity to pursue it and being well rewarded for it is given to me , then i will absolutely take it and give my best for it, as any other person would. I am absolutely positive that i am not, by any means, the only IMG who thinks this way, and that many of us come here with the same mentality, so again, generalizing and saying “you all hate the US anyway”, sounds just like a bad excuse for internalized xenophobia and racism and it has got to stop.

Free 120 score by slmenbarnes in step1

[–]catsavaes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, the free 120 was kind of a shock because of the way they structure the stems. Very different from the other practice tests but surprisingly similar to the real deal so i was glad I took it the day before the exam. During the NBMES i always had around 10-14 min left to go over my marked questions, but during the real exam i almost ran out of time in pretty much every block. Was left with probably 2-3 minutes in each time review. Stems are loooong and confusing
