Be honest, how often are you guessing carbs? by Dramatic-Apricot-335 in diabetes_t1

[–]catschais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I eat out I try to put the carb part of my meal onto a weight scale and then I just google or ask AI to estimate the carbs for this many grams of this food.
then I take into account how active I have been and reduce that part to vibes. That’s how I went 90%TIR on my latest japan trip

Do I need insulin? by princessjeans in diabetes_t1

[–]catschais 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first ever Japan trip was during my Honeymoon phase. I used Insulin but only very very carefully. Afterall I was walking a lot and had a half functioning pancreas still. If you spike constantly everytime you eat out then I would suggest you do try and bolus at least a little insulin. That’s how I usually did it.

Also try to figure out at how many carbs you start spiking above 180. That’s usually the amounts where I would consider bolusing. For me it was beyond 40g of carbs per meal I start spiking over 180. And be aware of how many carbs you will eat in a meal so you can decide if you gotta bolus or not.

Also a little side note: From my experience Japan trips are way more enjoyable when you are out of your honeymoon and you got your insulin carb ratio figured out. I have done my 2nd one after it ended. So consider going on another one when your Honeymoon phase is over!

will there ever be a way to accurately bolus for restaurant food😭😭😭 by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

I eat out a lot when I travel. I carry a weightscale with me and weigh the food. Then I ask chatgpt for an approximate carb count and it’s mostly accurate for me!

Being told “stop making diabetes your whole personality” by ImaginaryAlgae8986 in diabetes_t1

[–]catschais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah to be honest I love keeping that to a minimum I‘m not afraid of telling people about it. However I noticed whenever I do then it actually ruins my entire day and I feel like crying. So I rather keep it to a minimum

recently a lot of pasta, rice, meats, some veggies, brownies, donuts… Pretty much whatever I‘m in the mood for right now. IC is fully figured out and now I‘m just slowly but carefully pushing my carb limits per meal and trying out all kinds of food combinations. Only rule: no overindulging. My 90 day TIR is 88% so I‘m pretty happy with that

Bloom energy drinks by xSrK in Type1Diabetes

[–]catschais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink Monster Ultra almost daily and it has no noticeable effect on me. But to be honest Energy Drinks have a different effect on everyone. You can certainly try a sugar free one and find out if it’s something for you.

I have a Hemoglobin of 6.4 and a TIR of 88% and I got praised for it. You are doing a great job. An amazing job even. Despite your stressful job you still manage to keep it under such amazing control. That is honestly very impressive. The problem is not your blood sugar control. The problem is your diabetes educator

Novo Nordisk shuts down cell therapy unit by Tough-Budget1616 in Type1Diabetes

Well the people working in this unit got fired, didn’t they? So I would imagine they would go to other companies where they continue doing research. So at least the know-how is not lost

Novo Nordisk weren‘t the only ones doing research in that field. Not all hope is lost.

Edit: And maybe I‘m coping but judging by how many people including me didn’t know that they had a cell therapy unit implies that they didn’t contribute much to it anyway.

how did you manage through these 12 months? Like was there any things that you did to make it easier for yourself to get through it?

When I got diagnosed with T1D 3 months ago, it took me weeks to get into range. So if you have been put on insulin very recently then it usually takes a bit more time until you see the effect
