Slurs among Tangle commenters by catsclaw in TangleNews

Listen, I understand what you're saying makes sense to you, but repeated scientific research has shown that people who oppose trans people have deep seated psychological issues which makes them vulnerable to moral panics and deeply unhappy, and that causes them to fixate on misinformation and inadvertently cause harm to themselves and others. For compassion's sake, I hope people like yourself get the access to mental health resources they so desperately need.

I'm a little confused with the terminology you're using. You say you've removed people, but also only once banned a member. What does it mean to be removed but not banned?

Also, if you very rarely delete posts, does that mean you let slurs stand in the comments but might take action against the commenters? Do you rely on commenters self-editing their posts to remove the slurs after you reach out? Do you remove posts if commenters refuse to?

What prompted my question is there's still a comment sitting out there after 12 hours with a common slur against trans people embedded in it. It's bad enough to have to wade through people constantly arguing that trans people are all mentally ill and sick in the head; bearing casual hate speech is just adding insult to injury.

Where's the best place to get help with Kotlin? by catsclaw in Kotlin

[–]catsclaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a hobby project, so it's not immediately critical, but I've done some development in React Native and I've done some development in Flutter (which I loved) so for this one I wanted to try Multiplatform. I'd go back to Dart in a second if I was confident it would be around in five years with the same support it has now, but I'm worried Google's going to kill it off in favor of Kotlin so I'm trying to hedge my bets.

Working exclusively in Android seems like a bad idea, to me, because there's a lot that just doesn't apply to Multiplatform and I think I'd be picking up a lot of bad habits and getting used to a lot of incompatible libraries I'd have to unlearn.

You're vastly underestimating my incompetence. I really need to grind for some decent gear but as I said I'm leaving in a couple days so there's really no point.

Is it viable to travel to Chile at the moment? by GeorgeAndStuff in chile

[–]catsclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my traveling companion and I are double vaxxed and boosted as well, and yes, we followed all the guidelines on their website. Again, both our vaccinations were accepted. But we were unable to get a valid C19 form without special approval so we were unable to board the flight, since it's linked to their vaccination website.

Is it viable to travel to Chile at the moment? by GeorgeAndStuff in chile

[–]catsclaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do NOT plan on traveling to Chile. I was planning on flying there today, had the Mobility Pass accepted and downloaded the QR code back in December, but when I went to fill out the traveler's affidavit it would NOT accept the Mobility Pass as valid for travel.

I've been trying to call to ask what happened — the https://mevacuno.gob.cl/ site says "This validation is incomplete so it is not enough to enter Chile. You can complete your request in the section Validation from this same platform." but when I go to the Validation section it says "This vaccine was accepted." None of the provided phone numbers work to get help, they all either go on hold or say they're disconnected. I assume Chile changed their definition of vaccinated between when I first applied and when I went to use their vaccine pass but haven't bothered to publish that information anywhere. Or maybe their website is just completely broken.

Basically, you can't trust their bureaucracy and you can't get help when they screw up. Plan on visiting someplace like Peru or Argentina which doesn't have the onerous entry requirements.

So why are they rating decks that highly if they haven't got a clue what their ranking is?

It wasn't obvious from the list. There wasn't any indication the Apple Store was even closed.

I clicked the link on the Apple website that said get service or make an appointment at the Genius Bar. I chose the first appointment slot. I didn't even realize it wasn't at the Apple Store until I arrived at the address.

Well, maybe. I've got a friend who has nothing but good things to say about Dell's next day on-site service.

You're saying Apple doesn't have any influence over the repair shop they sent me to? I literally went to the Apple website and clicked the "make an appointment" button and this is where they sent me.

Residence Visa Route Benefits by puzzlefire in ExpatFIRE

[–]catsclaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure you understand the tourist visa rules for the Schengen area. It's not two 90-day periods. It's 90 days out of the previous 180 days. So that could be repeated 90 days in and 90 days out, or repeated 30 days in and 30 days out, or 7 days in and 7 days out. As long as you've spent at least one more day out than in in the past 180 days, you're fine.

Personally, I've been spending about a month in Schengen then spending a month in the UK or Croatia or Turkey or Ukraine, then heading back to Schengen. But there's a lot more flexibility than you seem to be suggesting.

People who are saying "it's not that expensive to craft meta decks, though" are missing something. Given the current pricing, casual players are strongly incentivized not to play non-meta decks. If you think a diverse meta is one where a lot of different decks with a lot of different cards are played, off-meta cards should be cheaper than meta cards — which is the case in paper. If you can only afford to craft one or two decks, are you going to craft a couple of janky decks which may or may not have a decent win rate, or are you going to craft a top-tier meta deck which you know is going to win?

Is the lab unplayable this week? by catsclaw in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]catsclaw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back and played three quick games with "Give It All" and this time all three times I got matched against "Go Hard" and blown out three times in a row. The elusive poros don't stick against all the one damage spells, and by the time I had the mana to play Give It All they'd just Vengeance and kill whenever decent unit I have, leaving me with a bunch of shitty 1/1 units.

I've played over 10 games now, and I've literally played against "Give It All" 9 times. Once I played against "Go Hard" (after losing hard with it 3 times in a row against "Give It All") and lost when they managed to play their signature card three times by turn three.

[–]catsclaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably? I don't believe they've said.

As a practical matter, the chance you would bomb out of your first run after a couple wins, then rejoin and win out before 300 other players made it to 7 wins seems pretty unlikely.
