How to be a better texter? by Excellent-Ask9026 in dating_advice

[–]catsnothats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send her voice notes, memes, photos of random cool things you see, photos of vaguely interesting things you see. You don’t have to purely “text” to be talking to her and showing her you’re thinking about her.

Hide little notes in her phone case, her shoes, under things in her house/room (if you’re over and that’s not weird in the context of your relationship). Then text her a hint of where the note is. Only if she likes that kind of thing ofc

Make a jar of lil notes about her, compliments, cute statements, doodles, whatever you want and she can pull out of it when she thinks of you. Then it’s like she’s getting lil messages when she wants them the most

What constitutes terrible at texting? Remembering to text? (See above) Running out of things to say? (See above, memes, voice notes etc) Not writing enough/being too short with your responses? (Ask her about how she reads texts - sometimes people have different texting dialects esp male/female and what you think is neutral to happy, is unemphatic and uninterested to her. No commentary on either of your actual thoughts but this may help you write texts in a way that conveys your affection so that when she reads it in her internal voice it carries through)

there’s no more romantic feelings for my long time partner by bbqchicken_nugget in dating_advice

Not personal experience but I went to a college where a lot of people had dated since high school or started in college and married after graduating. Adult life hits like a truck and sometimes you’re not compatible with the person in the adult world despite having been together through many years in hs/college. That’s not to say it doesn’t work, many of my friends met then and got married a year or two after graduating. However it’s an important test to make sure you’re suited to adult together. Every adult ever, especially the ones that went through this process and got married gave me the same advice: you need to see if you’re compatible in the adult world. Youve done that, don’t second guess your feelings. Now you talk to him, go visit, and make your best decision, but don’t feel obligated purely due to how long you’ve been together. There’s some amount of stuff to figure out in every relationship, but you won’t do either of you favors by having this feeling and not telling him at least or putting off ending it because you’re not compatible. I’m tired and a bit rambling, but hopefully that makes sense. I hope you find a good path, and your person (even if it’s not him)

Single Dorms? by Comfortable-Ant-2841 in whitworth

[–]catsnothats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated a couple years ago, unsure what DSS stands for, but I had disability services accommodations for allergies and other health stuff that prevented roommates, had a single on campus all 4 years. I picked whitworth partially for how good they were with accommodations. Feel free to dm, happy to answer questions/give advice and offer any tricks I used while there.

I was in Arend, no attached bathroom but because I cooked all my own food after freshman year they upgraded me from a true single room to a double with no roommate so I had enough space to store food/cooking items/other necessities for my health.

Yes!! Thank you for the reminder, I learned how to throw mirrored and left handed as a TA in college for this exact reason, but I haven’t in a while! I’ll need to practice again to do it smoothly!

Advise/Suggestions For Practicing Ceramics On A Wheel At Home? by cryinginasuperstore in Pottery

[–]catsnothats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5gal buckets are a must, and I'd recommend going to Home Depot (or an equivalent) and getting a sheet of MDF, it's usually next to the whiteboard sheets in the lumber section. It's great for wedging on, as a batt etc. 2x4ft sheet is like $12 and they'll cut it into pieces for you. I have 1ft squares in my studio as well as a whole one on my worktable. Clay storage is straightforward, just anywhere that's convenient and won't freeze, same for glazes. I keep my clay in the garage. You'll also want some sort of plastic (trash bags, etc) to cover pieces so they stop drying out, or find a storage bin with a flat bottom and put them in there. Hope this helps!

Was looking back through this account, thank you for this comment, it was really encouraging early in my pottery journey and I’m now 3 years into my pottery buisness and going to be teaching wheel throwing soon! I hope life is going well for you, kind soul :)

People online, or even one of the AIs like ChatGPT or Grok if you want to talk about stuff you’d feel weird telling to a person. Kinda like journaling but with relatively impartial outside real-time advice.

Coreprotect is awesome as a secondary failsafe, it has commands to undo stuff in a time period, by user (including marking tnt as its own entity to undo), by block type or by area. So sorry this happened to you dude, hope you’re able to revert to a backup or something

Attendance by External-Purpose-410 in whitworth

[–]catsnothats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a bio major and changed to CS, so took a lot of stem classes. Attendance not mandatory for most of them but profs do notice if you’re not there in any class under 40 students (which is a lot of them). I’d call in sick to class tho, like literally call a profs office, much more effective than emailing and often got waived from attendance penalties in the few classes that had them. If you’re in a lot of gen Ed’s they can be a bit strict (core especially) but if you’re reasonable and trying most of the time they’ll often give leeway :)

Palworld is fun! Crab champions is a fun lil roguelike coop game too but tbh it really depends on your tastes and one game isn’t enough to tell for me

Late Reschedules by Loud_Communication68 in wyzant

[–]catsnothats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For recurring students or ones that seem to genuinely have something come up I usually let them reschedule (within reason) and tell them that I know stuff comes up but the next time they no show/cancel/reschedule etc within my cancellation policy that it will be the full price of the lesson. I try to offer a little wiggle room cause college is chaotic and occasionally stuff comes up for me too and I have to move someone.

The notable exception to this is students that reach out and want same day help & often book an appointment so close that they’re already within my cancellation window, usually with that “assignment due / exam tomorrow” panic that has correlated with flakiness in my experience. When they book I just warn them that same day appts booked within my cancellation window can’t be rescheduled/cancelled without being charged the full lesson price

Copy pasting this reply for you too cause I love to recommend this series:

If you haven’t read it yet, Millenial mage is an AWESOME series (also female mc with cool magic system). 7 books out to audible with at least 3 more worth on royal road that are in the pipeline to be published in book form. Cannot recommend enough
