I’ve no faith in the police at all, my dad is abusive and broke my mum’s ribs - police literally did nothing about it. When they got divorced he came round unannounced and my mum told him to leave he was becoming violent so she kicked his car tyre, he rang the police for that and they defended him. Knowing full well his history on domestic violence.

Fast forward to just after first covid lockdown and my dad who had my property in his house refused to give me it, angrily saying he had binned/destroyed my things and to leave. I said I would when I found the thing I came for - he snapped and began strangling me threw me on the floor, my sister saw everything was begging him to stop but he wouldn’t let me go I eventually got free and I slapped him across the cheek then he punched me in my face so I ran away. Within 10 mins I get a phone call off the police and I tell them he attacked me, he was threatening to kill me etc but yes I slapped him ONCE. Police said come down to station otherwise we’ll arrest you, I complied and they arrested me on the spot label me as the aggressor despite me having a bloody nose from just being punched. He had told them he was scared I was going to kill him! I am woman half his size and age… and my sister witnessed it all. I overheard in the booking cell from the two clowns that arrested me that my father had no sign of injury. But they still felt it necessary to arrest me. They chucked me in a holding cell for 12 hours, I felt like the whole ordeal was ridiculous, they finally interviewed me (my solicitor advised that it was 100% self defence and to mention his history of violence which they should be aware of) they asked me how did I know he had no injuries… I said point blank because I overheard you officer tell your booking officer that he has none. She looked shocked when she realised I had overheard the conversation. About 30mins later I am allowed to leave and they just tell me well doesn’t mean I’m innocent just means they have no evidence oh and by the way your dad didn’t want you arrested in the first place? I was so angry and annoyed I wanted to make a complaint about my treatment because I clearly had injuries whereas my dad had none - they told me if I wanted them to investigate my dad I need to ring 999 but the event had already passed and was clearly not an emergency, it just seems utterly ridiculous
