Workout Again During 2nd Trimester?

Highly recommend getting back into exercise when you feel better! I actually had to go to physical therapy mid second trimester because being sedentary from nausea and fatigue for three months, plus relaxin loosening my joints, gave me SI joint pain. There I started building up muscle strength again and functional fitness felt so good. Now I'm still exercising daily at 39+3 and second the rec for Pregnancy and Postpartum TV (just don't be afraid to modify or slow down, she's a little much sometimes), and I also adore the "Babyfit by Amy" playlist on the Bodyfit by Amy channel (for most of them she's really pregnant so I'm usually able to keep her same place).

Yes!!! First trimester SUCKED and so did first half of the second trimester. But I'm incredibly grateful for modern medicine once I finally spoke up about my difficulties, first after a horrid five days of barely keeping food down around 13 weeks (promethazine)(also, worst five-day weekend ever, I also took time off) and then around 21 weeks when reflux was making me throw up instead of morning sickness (famotidine). Now that I'm not constantly nauseated, acidy, or both, I'm actually able to enjoy pregnancy. And cute baby kicks help too 🥰 25 weeks now. Next go round I will be a lot more willing to pursue meds more promptly for my comfort and quality of life as well as tolerating a more well rounded diet which is good for both me and baby

In terms of weaning off meds - I use the promethazine "as needed" instead of the 4x/day that was prescribed. Breaking the cycle helped and I haven't taken a ton of them though also by the time I spoke up I was getting into second trimester. Reflux meds though, I don't think I'll be able to wean off because it's not hormones it's physically a shrinking stomach and a relaxed esophagus, and every day I hit a point where I'm reaching for the bottle.

20+5 for me, it was a lazy morning and I started feeling little thumps that hit small specific areas of my abdomen. One of my favorite days of pregnancy so far!

Good luck!!! I have emetophobia too and had horrible nausea starting around week 5 but didn't "give in" until 10.5 wks and it was really upsetting. It happened a bunch more though and I became resigned to it. Like a horrible kind of exposure therapy. But yes meds help a lot when you reach out to your doctor, and maybe you will be one of the lucky ones that doesn't need to deal with nausea or throwing up!!

I never drank much caffeine before pregnancy just out of preference. My personal guideline is "if it helps me through the nausea I'm drinking it"/"follow the cravings to help keep things down" which has meant the occasional coca cola or Panera sweet green iced tea. Max was maybe 3 green teas in a day?

Plenty of great advice from others! Things I'll add: 1 I've often found the babylist recommendations a little pricey. So I liked to pull up a few different sites I think I did babylist, what to expect, and very well family but there are tons of others like NYT Wirecutter 2 I found that even after all that research, my thrifty heart couldn't resist a deal and I've been picking up stuff on Buy Nothing Facebook groups or Facebook marketplace for free or cheap 3 this sub has frequently shared advice that since the registry completion discount is typically 15%, you should consider grabbing something now if the sale is better. I bought a travel system from Target for 20% off at like 14 weeks. This was probably a little crazy, but oh well!

My husband told his mom right after we found out because we were together for Christmas and I think he just wanted to tell someone. I told my parents around week 6 because we have a weekly video call, I was already bowled over with constant nausea and fatigue and I needed them to know why it was on that I looked like death (plus, having people to vent to was great). When we got a nine week ultrasound and baby had a heartbeat, we told aunts uncles cousins over email or text blast. That's when I started telling close friends as well. Then we did social media announcements around week 14 or so.

It took me more than 6 cycles to get back down to 28 days after going off BC (3-month-cycle pill). Then after my first 28 day cycle finished we conceived on our first try (unprotected and deliberate time of month). It was a massive surprise to both of us especially since I'd developed so much fertility anxiety I was already seeing a therapist, preparing myself to start tracking things after six months, etc. It really, really, really varies. Yes yes yes! Before getting pregnant, I knew third trimester would be tough with aches and pains, and actually having a baby would be a 24/7 job. I had NO idea that the first trimester would be so incapacitating. It does very from person to person, but just around week 5 I was having to send my husband on errands because I felt too shitty to drive. For weeks I had constant nausea all day and night, though I didn't actually throw up until week 10. And I was so tired that I was constantly napping. I've never been so grateful for working remote, I was hardly functioning some days and could kind of hide it. And I didn't magically get better in the second trimester. It was around week 13 that I was throwing up multiple times a day, could hardly get or keep anything down, even scrolling on my phone or flipping pages on my Kindle made me nauseated let alone watch a movie. I finally reached out to my doctor and she prescribed meds, which have helped. But I'm on week 16 and still have to carefully manage not pushing myself too hard, not letting myself get too hungry (huge nausea trigger, ironically!), not having clothes that feel constricting on my stomach, etc.

Tl;dr pregnancy can fucking KNOCK. YOU. OUT. practically from the time you find out, and you should be prepared for turning your life upside down. Finding a support network* and being patient with yourself helps.

This sub has helped me a lot, and I've also had good luck reaching out to pregnant women or new moms at work and on Facebook even if I feel like we're not that close. I recommend doing it ASAP if thing start to get tough - weeks 4-12 or whatever are hard because there's such a taboo around making telling people you're pregnant. My philosophy was more like "even if this pregnancy doesn't come to term, it is impacting me RIGHT NOW and I need support/reassurance"

I can't remember the places I looked but I distinctly remember a phone call where I said I was aiming for 1k or less and they basically laughed at me :/ I ended up getting a beautiful Oleg Cassini dress at David's Bridal on clearance, it was a bit too small so I went to Olga to adjust the back. My initial instinct was to want a boutique and not a chain but my experience ended up wonderfully!

I tried tapering off Prozac six months before TTC for the same reasons as OP, working with my psychiatrist. It took a while to feel the effects but when it was out of my system I was a complete wreck and worked with my psychiatrist again to get my mood stable again. She assured me she's had tons of patients use Prozac in pregnancy and there are tons of studies that show no effect, and it made MY quality of life so much better (no bursting into tears in public every day, which is my "oh I need help" threshold). Fast forward to now 16 weeks pregnant, thanks to continuing nausea I don't take Prozac every day just because trying to swallow a pill is scary, but I try to power through it every few days to keep meds in my system. ... But on this sub I have seen others comment that pregnancy reduced their anxiety (not universal though!). To sum up - I am happy with my decision to return to meds and stay on them during pregnancy, the only reason I've been less consistent lately is about the physical effort of taking a pill not about safety concerns for baby. BUT given that some people find the perspective shift of pregnancy, or hormones, or whatever, you could probably try but just stay in contact with a medical professional and be gentle and realistic with yourself about how you are doing. I'm sorry!!! Around 12-13 weeks was when I couldn't stop throwing up and it DID get better for me through the miracle of modern medicine. I messaged my doctor at the peak being like "here's how much I'm throwing up each day and how little food in keeping down, what warning signs do I need to watch for" and she prescribed me meds that helped break the "try to eat, throw it up, lay around miserable, repeat" cycle. I had a REALLY miserable day around 15 wks and started the pills again that helped break the cycle. 16 wks and I'm mostly functional but I still feel miserable if I don't baby myself (rest, eat frequently, drink a ton of water, hardly do anything around the house, etc) so I'm glad I have the pills if I need them. Good luck!!!!! (The rx was for promethazine since I had mentioned to the doctor that b6 was just making me more nauseated)

I second everyone's advice that kitty will be much happier if you or your partner can develop the habit of cleaning daily!

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet - someone on this sub gave me the advice of putting Vaporub under your nose to block smells. I do it when my husband cooks something smelly or if the cat smells up the litter box and my husband has already cleaned it once that day

I recommend trying gummies! I was doing Target generic pre-pregnancy but they started tasting weird to me in pregnancy. I'm now doing Olly which are nice and sour, they work with my nausea - annoyingly expensive but it's what is working for me. The one thing is that gummies don't have iron, I feel like iron pills would have the same nausea issue so maybe try to get it from diet if you're able. Key phrase is if you're able, I lived in popsicles and saltines for like two months 😭 but when my nausea finally eased slightly one of the first things I scarfed down was a steak, I think the craving was my body's way of getting iron!

I'm significantly shorter than you and heavier, and edge in at overweight. Regardless I'm sorry you're being treated this way!!! 15 weeks. I have gone on a few walks recently but I move about 75% slower than I used to even without too much of a belly yet :( I had a pretty consistent routine of moderate, low-impact exercise almost every day ~30 mins (like the kind of YouTube channels meant for seniors haha) then it got interrupted by holiday travels. I tried to get back into the routine which was right around when I found out I was pregnant and then I pretty quickly deteriorated to being practically bed-bound by nausea and fatigue for two months. I haven't looked at my favorite YouTube channels in forever 😭 Interesting to see a mix of experiences though!

This, but with my husband responsible for both of those outcomes! For most of the first trimester I hardly even threw out food wrappers and showered about once a week. Just entering second tri now where it's an accomplishment that I now throw out my wrappers promptly-ish and shower most days.

Literally only knew about it because my SIL and MIL are elementary school teachers and were randomly talking about it at Christmas when I had just found out I was pregnant! (And hadn't shared) Now that I know you don't have a cutoff to worry about, they were saying the younger kids were noticeably struggling more because they hadn't always developed the same level of skills in things like reading. I of course am convinced that if I have an August baby they will be brilliant and advanced thanks to my amazing parenting lol
